7700 Downgrade to 5.1.5.159 R02

Post by drevans »

I work for the US Navy and we have code 5.1.5.159 R02 code on our ship, unfortunately upgrading the code is out because that process
is controlled by another entity. Our problem currently is we had a bad CMM, ordered a new one, and it arrived with code 5.1.6.340 R02. Due to the code differance we cannot flash-synchro to the new CMM. Is there a proper way to Remove the newer code and place a copy of our older code on the card. We cannot upgrade due to military rules about applying anything that is not lab tested by some govt entity. We are running 7700 with Dual CMM.

thank in advance

Here are some steps I have used to change the version of software on the 7700

This procedure assumes you have a standalone PC or Laptop with FTP capability,
and the correct version of the CMM files you want to install. For simplicity is best
to have the files in some folder like: C:\OS7700

* Bring up a DOS prompt window on the PC (aka Command Prompt)
* Set your default directory to C:\OS7700 (my example)
* Start your FTP server on the PC and make sure it is set to the default directory
of C:\OS7700
* Connect an ethernet cable from your PC to the ethernet port on the CMM card

If possible, boot your OS7700 with "only" the CMM that has the incorrect version.

Log into the CMM, the default is: login= admin pass= switch

If the CMM does not have an IP address, you will have to set one to use FTP.

7700> show ip interface <cr> (to see your address)

7700> aaa authentication ftp local <cr> (to grant permission to FTP )

7700> modify boot parameters <cr> (to set the changes in the boot.cfg file)

Boot >
THU JAN 01 00:01:17 : SYSTEM (75) info message:
+++ Boot param edit session started.

boot> boot empipaddr 172.17.20.251:ffff0000 <cr>
( 251 is the IP address you pick for the CMM)
(ffff0000 is Netmask 255.255.0.0 )

boot> boot empgatewayipaddr 172.17.20.250 <cr>
(250 is the address of the FTP server, can be your PC)

boot> commit system <cr>

WARNING: Changes are temporary and may be overridden at the next system boot.

Boot > exit <cr>

7700> show ip interface <cr> (to see if your address “took” )

Total 3 interfaces
Name IP Address Subnet Mask Type Status Forward
---------+---------------+---------------+--------+--------+-------
loopback 127.0.0.1 255.0.0.0 ETH_II UP NO
EMP 172.17.20.251 255.255.0.0 ETH_II UP NO
vlan 1 192.168.5.19 255.255.255.0 ETH_II UP YES

On your PC running the FTP server:

Ping the CMM address from your PC to verify connectivity.
Set your default directory on the PC to the one with the required Alcatel files.

Type: dir (to see the files in /flash/working )

Jan 30 2004 223782 Fwebqos.img
Jan 30 2004 214280 Fwebrout.img

FTP to the CMM and log in: Login= admin Pass= switch
(this will put you in the Working directory):

Example: C:\OS7700> FTP 172.17.20.251 ( the IP address of your CMM )

Type: bin <cr> (to set file type to binary, use ASCII for text files)
Type: hash <cr> (allows you to see # for each 512 byte block sent)
Type: put Frelease.img <cr> (for example)

From the PC use the “put” command to push ALL of the remaining “.img” files and
the certs.pem files over to the CMM. Sometimes you can use the “mput *.img”
command from the FTP prompt to mass copy all *.img files.

When you have finished pushing all the files to the CMM, break the FTP connection.

Type: bye <cr > (to break the connection to the CMM card )

Back on the console session with the CMM module:

Type: cd working <cr> (to set default to the working directory )
Type: pwd <cr> (to confirm that’s where you are )

Type: install *.img <cr>

Installation of Fwebadvrout.img was successful.

If you see the following line, answer NO

Installing Fwebsecu.img. Continue ?(<CR>= Yes) Type: no

Then type: reload working rollback-timeout 1 <cr>

Confirm Activate (Y/N): Type: y
Unit will reload:

NOTE:
Login to the CMM and immediately and copy files from WORKING to the CERTIFIED
directory to prevent auto reboot because of file version mismatch.

NOTE: You must type the copy command rapidly because you only have a few seconds
before the CMM reboots because of the file version mismatch.

Example

login: admin
password: switch
