another crashed switch

Post by doctora »

I have 5 switches that I inherited when I started this job about 3 weeks ago. This is switch number 2. I hope to have a good handle on these after going through all the problems and reading the user manuals. Thanks so much for the help so far.

Hi Mark,

The flash is corrupted. Stop the boot-up sequence, change the flags to stop in Miniboot (0x1000) and follow the routine to format the flash + re-upload the AOS via zModem (serial).

From Miniboot you need the diskInit command to do the format:
viewtopic.php?f=87&t=3851&p=18315

The zModem procedure (sysStartZmodem) is detailed here:
viewtopic.php?f=137&t=7490&p=35809&hili ... dem#p35809
http://alcatelunleashed.com/viewtopic.php?f=137&t=5763

The topic was widely discussed on the forum. One of the important things is to reset the baud-rate to 115200 so that you don't need to wait for ages. (It will still take 20 Minutes to upload ...)

Be aware that the switch will save the baud-rate in /flash/boot.params. You will have to change the baud-rate of vxworks and later on the AOS back to 9600.

I understand the zmodem commands very well after the last switch. How do you stop the boot up process?

Thank you

During boot (right after powering up) there should be a counter saying "press any key to stop auto-boot 4, 3, 2, 1".

If this is not there, a jumper needs to be set but it is different from model to model.

I'll try to find the jumper ..

I will need the jumper settings. Is there documentation that covers the jumpers. I have the manuals on CD. I have spent some time going through them but I can't locate the jumper settings. I had a feeling over the weekend that I would need to intrupt the boot process but I could not figure it out.

There is no public documentation for the jumper settings as your warranty is void after opening the box.

In case you still want to do it. (Be aware that I only got hold of a 24 port model so I hope it is the same for the 48 port version ...)

In case you have any doubts - STOP! - I won't take responsibility for any hardware damage.

- UNPLUG the power!!!!!
- Open the 6602
- Work from the front, so that you face the network ports
- Find the two "Lattice" chips on the upper right, below a bigger silicon
- Next to the left "Lattice" chip there should be a jumper block called "HDRM3"

The default setting is as follows (where the stars are the jumpers):
1 [ * ][ * ] 2
[ * ][ * ]
[ - ][ - ]

The boot interrupt setting is as follows (the stars are still the jumpers - move the jumper on bank "2" to the new position):
1 [ * ][ - ] 2
[ * ][ * ]
[ - ][ * ]

- Close the switch
- Power it on

Be ready to press "any key" and "y" in the next 4 seconds as soon as you can see the message on the screen.

P.S. I am pretty sure that the hardware layout is the same as just some PHY chips and silicons are missing to get the 48-port version....

It is working. If anyone else reads this make sure to put the cover on before pluging in the cord. I had my hand resting on a heat sink and got a bit of a charge. Wasn't the first time and sadly won't be the last.

I will update this when I get it fixed.(yes I am being positive that there will be no more questions)

Thanks again.

Hi Mark,

Good to hear that it worked.

Regarding your "accident" - this is why is wrote to close it before powering it. I experienced the same and tried to share this with you ... ;)

One last suggestion: Please make sure to upgrade to the latest 5.1.6.R02 code to apply all the bug-fixes developed by Alcatel-Lucent throughout the years.
