Cant learn MAC address.

i connected one desktop to one of the 6850P port , and port is showing in forwarding state. but cant see mac address learned.. (also lan is in disconnect state but led is blinking on both , switch side and user device's ethernet side)

When i connect the same port to my laptop and it get forwarding state with mac learned and able to connect to lan.


let me know if this issue is related to data layer ( switchig side.)

The issue is solved for temporary , but it may happen again in future , because i dont think the steps i have taken to resolve is not technically correct. ( Also the same issue has been noted down for another PC long back and resolved it by connecting to another port and reconnect to same port).

the step i have gone through..

assign effected PC's mac address to the connected pot.

mac-address-table 00:02:DA:00:70:0C 2/26 1701
..
after this pc got connected.. and working find.



once this mac is learned to switch and removed it and tried.. and still working.

no mac-address-table 00:02:DA:00:70:0C 2/26 1701


.. and check

show mac-address-table 2/23

mac is shown in switch. and working fine.


Buy here i request you guys to give me the reason to happens this. ( Why switch is not learning MAC).

Hi,
switches learn MAC addresses only from the source MAC addresses of incoming frames. So you may be need to mirror this port and wireshark incoming traffic.
