RIP routing

Post by alonso.garcia »

I have two 6400 brand new and I want to do RIP routing between them ,I want to do this configuration globally that you will see below
I will create 2 VLAN per switch with its router interface
Switch A
Vlan 1-
IP-10.51.1.0
Mask 255.255.255.0
Router Interface-10.51.1.1

Vlan 2
Ip-10.51.2.0
mask-255.255.255.0
Router interface- 10.51.2.1

Switch B
Vlan 4-
IP-10.51.4.0
Mask 255.255.255.0
Router Interface-10.51.4.1

Vlan 5
Ip-10.51.5.0
mask-255.255.255.0
Router interface- 10.51.5.1

you can clarify me it's there is something wrong

now my problem????? I've read the ALU doc but i need some confirmations
My doubt is to do routing between both switches
I have to create for example
Vlan 3 in both switches with Ip 10.51.3.0
mask 255.255.255.0
The router interface 10.51.3.1

for this VLAN a physical connection is need it , do the switch ports needs an especifical configurations???? Could I use whatever port????

The port should be part of the VLAN you want to use for that. The IP interface is bound to a VLAN not to a physical port.

thank you for the replay ,some details (I used to work with other devices an maybe the philosophy of ALU is different)
1- for the this case that Vlan 3 that is declare in both switches the ip interface in both has to be the same (10.53.3.1) could be a conflict???
2- The port attached to this Vlan 3 has a normal treatment I mean is not a trunk port
3- I know that the RIPV2 the limits is the hop count and metric , my question is , the hop count is taken when the packet traverse different switches (limited by the number of switches) or when the packet traverse different Vlan's with the ip routing interface
thanks in advanced

1 - You may not use the same IP on both OmniSwitches unless you're running VRRP for that.
2 - It doesn't have to be a dot1Q tag, could also be a "port default" on both sides for VLAN 3
3 - Please read the documentation for examples how RIP works. You can find the public download for the documentation via the link in my signature.
