Enable POE OMNISWITCH 6400
Enable POE OMNISWITCH 6400
Hi, I am new in using omniswitch 6400 and I would like to enable POE. I have connected my laptop to the switch console but nothing is happening.
What should happen when my laptop is connected to switch console?
I've search internet and found to run a command "lanpower start" but i do not know how to run the command. The switch also include a document to download "OS6400 Base Software Module version 6.4.4.roi", i've download it but no application i can run. What is this download?
Can anyone show me the right direction?
thanks

Re: Enable POE OMNISWITCH 6400
Hi,
from here you can find more information on OmniSwitch 6400 Hardware Users Guide.
If your laptop is connected to Console Port (bottom left on your switch) with Alcatel Console Adapter
The console port, located on the chassis front panel left, provides a console serial connection to the switch (no POE) and is required when logging into the switch for management purposes. You need an adapter RJ45/RS-232 DTE and console program such as microsoft HyperTerminal/HyperACCESS. You need to know if your switch is POE ready(OS6400-P24 and OS6400-P48) with 360W/510W power supply. You need an POE ready client such as IP phone, wireless LAN station, access point. It can be plugged directly into the Ethernet port(not Console!). From these RJ-45 the devices receive both electrical power and data flow. Connect this to any port on the switch except Console. In HyperTerminal after login/password you try:And then your POE client get power.

Re: Enable POE OMNISWITCH 6400
Hi,
did you have 6850-P48? Did PoE work before? Have you attached a PoE powersupply.
This switch is a lot of years old ....

Re: Enable POE OMNISWITCH 6400
can you help me ??? I have a lo tof switchs affected by this problem
Re: Enable POE OMNISWITCH 6400
Same phone like before the issue? Are there any changes as the problem occured first time (new phones, new phone image)?
I know that there are problems with cisco phones because they are speaking CDP. Alcatel uses standards like lldp.
Are there any "successfull" PoE devices (other phones, access points ....)?
regards
Silvio
