Problem with fax connections after migration to 9.1

Post by Michi »

Hi there,

old System:
Crystal-HW, CPU-6-Step-2, f1.603.1.aj (Rel.6.0.1) in ACT-14 at the Main Site. One additional WM-1 Shelf connected via INTOF-link.
After migration:
Common-HW, AS-IBM x3250M3, i1.605.25.b (Rel.9.1). At the Main Site there are three Shelfs with one GD-3, and one separated GD-3 with two Shelfs. One T2-Link for external communcation.
We´ve implemented an extra VLAN only for the OXE components (Alcatel Switches 6850). There are NO Ip-Phones, NO VoiceMail. Simple and straight config.

After the migration, we´ve experienced an issue regarding fax connections. The connection is established, but sometimes, the connection is refused without any reported cause...the error doesn´t occur in a reproducable way...sometimes, if we´re testing the connections, we´re causing fax connections with up to 20 pages without any issue...but sometimes, we cannot get one regular fax connection...we´ve already contacted ALU. All fax-machines are affected. We´ve tested with analog-Ports which are declared in the same shelf as the t2-link, with other ports declared in different shelfs as the t2-link, with analog-TA´s. The issue occured in all the conditions. Also, if we make internal fax connections (from one fax machine to another without t2) the issue also occurs randomly...

Also the analog RMA-Connection seems to be influenced...you can "hear" that the modem sounds seems to be produced in "slow motion"... :?

Incvisu and trace files are created, but there are no hints to solve the problem.

We´ve spoken with some other Alcatel-Partners and they told us, that ther might be a problem with patch 25.b?
Perhaps someone also experienced these kind of problems.

Thanks a lot for your support.

Best Regards

Michi

Hello MrAnMo,

thanks for your help. Yes, we´ve already checked via infocs and we´ve also had a meeting with the provider. No error´s, no sync-problem. Everything seems to be ok...we´ve also created an extra "test"-shelf running with gd-2 and a sli-16. But also the same lousy problem. In the next days, i´ll try with patch 29. Support has analysed our created trace files, but how to find an error which doesn´t occur if we´re tracing...? Perhaps i have to keep the trace running all the time to get rid of this problem...

So on, thanks a lot. I´ll let you know about the next steps.

Regards

Michi

Ok strange.

Did you check your system parameters? Ignore ISDN error messages all true (there are 6 or 7 of them)
Did you check your gd and ga parameters that they are all set to full duplex?

under all the created ip domains modem and fax negotination is set to true?

Hello MrAnMo,

thank you very much.
We´ve already checked the settings...We cannot find anything...
But the customer has informed us about a very, very strange hap...on Monday, after the migration of the OXE, there was a complete roll out for a new Firmware of the fax machines on the whole company...we´re still testing, but this seems to be the origin of the issue...
I´ll keep you informed about that.

Such silly conditions just let you doubt on every fact...

Best regards

Problem with fax connections after migration to 9 1

Maybe on the problem system you have strict UML Syntax enabled, whilst it isn't enabled on the other installation?

There were changes in the way Alcatel proprietary fax protocol is implemented (inter shelf/netw) --> switch to T38 I think from R9. Check your general fax parameters in the database before and after migration along with the release notes.
