ARS issue - 1st Route SIP TG, 2nd ISDN

Post by jazzepat »

Hi all

Ive been tearing my hair out trying to get a "simple" ARS to work using a SIP TG as the first route and then an ISDN as the second.
The reason is pretty obvious, if the SIP TG is out of service/unavailable/un-reacheable/times out, my client wants the calls to route via ISDN.

Ive set these up before with no problems, but Im having real issues with this and can't work out why.

Ive followed every TC and TG I can find in reference to SIP or ARS -

TC0006ed01 - No Operation of ARS
Checked entity 0, but dont think this is appropriate anymore

TC0260ed01 - Overflow Causes on ARS
This more geared on ISDN.. which makes sense since its from 2001

TC1054ed02 - GVP SIP 7.6 connected to ALCATEL OmniPCX4400 with manual components installation.
There are a few timers here that are different in this config example, but there is no difference in the production result
SIP initial time-out 4000
SIP timer T2 8000
SIP connection duration 180000
TRUNK COS31
T306 120
T310 120
T313 120 -> I have tried reducing this to no avail
T314 120

TC1172ed01 - SIP Sets cannot make ARS calls
Not sure if this is applicable, but for SIP registration to work, I did have to create a SIP device. Havent changed values of "Rex Entity to be used in ARS" or "Entity for Og calls to Rex users" yet. They are still FALSE

TC1251ed02 - GVP8.1 / OXE Installation and Configuration Guide
OXE settings and timers are the same as TC1054

TC1820ed01 - Trunking with 3rd Party Guideline
Still working my way through this document.

TG0042ed01 - SIP Troubleshooting Guide

TG0055ed02 - TOOLS AND METHODS TO INVESTIGATE ISSUES OVER IP NETWORK

TG0069ed11 - Session Initiation Protocol Troubleshooting Guide
This is where the notes for SIP registration are

Ive also referred to my ASCE course notes from release 9 (I haven't done then R10 upgrade and my client is running j1.410.40.c.. I know that things like SIP to CH Mapping was introduced.. however Ive tried changing various options in there to no avail either).

I have been testing by dialling an indialable abbreviated number, that then uses an ARS prefix (0) and then dials the number.

To test the ARS failover from Route 1 (SIP TG) to Route 2 (ISDN TG) Ive either changed the Trunk Group setting on the SIP External Gateway to -1 OR Ive added a static route to the SIP Gateway IP address to an invalid destination (ie an IP address that doesnt respond on port 5060).

In either of these scenarios, the inbound ISDN call is rejected by the OXE (or at least recieves a busy tone) and is not passed to Route 2 of the ARS.

Interestingly the motortrace/traced does not show any SIP activity or attempted setup for this call and the T3 for the ISDN shows Unspecified.

Ive tried various SIP to CH Mapping settings and that hasnt worked either.

The ARS route output is

Below Ive noted all the config details that have generally been relevant to this deployment.
Ive tried this using the ABC-F local SIP TG and an ISDN all countries and both of these result in the same call rejection.

If I remove route 1 from the time based route list, then route 2 (ISDN) works perfectly.. Im certain Im missing something simple but I cant find it.
Ive considered that there could be either a bug in the release my client is running that is rejecting this, OR (more likely) there is something to
do with SIP Registration and teh fact Call Handling isnt seeing this GW go out of serivce (or similar) thats causing it to behave this way.
The only other thing I havent tried is using a tuner trace to see all the call processing steps.. I just know know what the tuner options are.

Any help or thoughts would be greatly apprecaited.. as I really dont want to raise an SR if Ive missed something obvious

Thanks in advance, sorry for the giant thread!!

SIP to CH should be the way. Which SIP message do you receive when line is unavailable? There are also new options for detecting out of service SIP ext gw in new releases if this is the case. So main question is: unavailability is of the gw or is on SIP messages?

Interestingly, nothing appears in the SIP (traced) logs when I test the inbound call. I can't see the OXE attempt to contact the gateway.

Ill login, break it, and run another trace in a few hours however that is the tested outcome until now.. nothing!

Yet in its current state (its still using ARS but the SIP TG is active) the calls work perfectly (though there does seem to be registration time outs every so often).

I was expecting to see some kind of SIP message in the the SIP motor such as 501, 502, 503, 504, 600, 604, 480 or something like that when I intentionally add a bad static route..

When I take the SIP external gateway of of service (i.e. set the TG to -1) I would just expect the OXE to see that route 1 is out of service and use route 2, but it even fails to do this.

Very confusing..

Hi people,

My bane is similar a little... My first problem: we have a small company and an OmniPCX PBX.
We have a SIP trunk (6 channels) and an ISDN trunk group with four accesses (in total 8 channels). An outbound call via SIP trunk is far more cheaper than via ISDN - so we would like to send these calls via VoIP primarily.
BUT: we have 13 DDI numbers which are able to come into our PBX via that SIP trunk only. I think I have to reserve a few channels for them.
Can I limit number of outbound calls via SIP? E.g. we create a limit: max. 4 outbound calls simultaneously. If four outbound calls are in progress via SIP, the next outbound call will run via ISDN. So in the worst case remains two channels for our VoIP numbers' inbound calls.
Is this restriction possible?
Yeh, and when SIP is unavaliable (e.g. problem with our internet connection) all of outbound calls have to run via the ISDN trunk group - similar to jazzepat's problem.

My second problem: I am absolutely NOT an expert in PBX programming. So anybody knows a good solution for me please write ALL step by step... :) :)

Thanks in advance,
sagyuri

Do you have OXE or OXO system?
This topic refers to OXE. As you said yo have a small company maybe you are talking about OXO.

Hi L_lefante,

Maybe it is OXO; main cabinet: OMNI PCX L (2G).
This is a rack box with 8+1 card slot. If sw versions are important I can look for them.

Ok. In case of OXO you can limit outgoing calls by modifying the amount of channels available for VoIP. This parameter you will find it in Voice Over IP > VoIP: Parameters > General.

This restricts the amount of total communications, so you should select a number according with the traffic you want to have, both incoming and outgoing.

Secondly, for outgoing calls you have to manage ARS overflow, so in case of busy trunk group calls will overflow to ISDN trunk group.

Regards.

Same HW can be used on both basically.
What software you use to control your PBX?

Hi cavagnaro,

I use the OmniPCX Office management console 9.0.18.1 program. I see these in OMC / [company name] / System Miscellaneous / Software Versions menu:

IBS: 100/003.016
IBS NG: 100/049.003
IBS PWT: 200/001.024
Multi Reflex: 100/001.006

I hope these are useful...
