7450 Traps Not Being Sent

Post by aleach_utopia »

I was wondering if anyone was using the 7450s in a non-SAM environment. We are using OpenNMS, but based on the configuration, we are not receiving traps from any of our 7450s. The config looks like this:

A:Test-ESS>config>log#
event-control "snmp" 2004 generate critical
event-control "snmp" 2005 generate cleared
snmp-trap-group 2
trap-target "OpenNMS" address x.x.x.x snmpv2c notify-community "public"
exit
log-id 2
from main security
to snmp 1024
exit

And our SNMP stuff:
A:Test-ESS>config>system# info
----------------------------------------------
snmp
exit
time
sntp
shutdown
exit
zone UTC
exit
thresholds
rmon
exit
exit
#--------------------------------------------------
echo "System Security Configuration"
#--------------------------------------------------
security
telnet-server
snmp
community "public" rwa version both
exit
no per-peer-queuing
exit
#--------------------------------------------------
echo "System Security Cpm Hw Filters Configuration"
#--------------------------------------------------
security
exit
----------------------------------------------

I opened a ticket with Alcatel, but they have not given me a solution.

When I do a "show log log-id 2" I see this output:
A:Test-ESS# show log log-id 2

===============================================================================
Event Log 2
===============================================================================
warning: 18 events dropped from log

Why are the events dropped from the log and not being sent out to the trap server? I read their manual, but it is not very helpful. I also did a search on this board for any info regarding traps in general, but there was not any info for the 7450s. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I've come across the same on 7210 SAS D.

did you solve this?

My guess is that it has something to do with management address. :[

Does anybody have anything helpful to add here by chance? We're seeing teh same problem with 7210 SAS-S running 10.0R4. Traps don't get delivered (or rather they aren't even attempted to be sent) and the event logs show everything being dropped.

I have scraped every option I can find in the config and am unable to come up with the missing link. I feel like it is either super simple, or a giant bug.

So I finally figured this out today, at least for us.

The problem was the lack of a system address. A system (aka: Loopback) address is required for traps to be sent. Having an in-band mgmt address on an IES isn't enough. We ended up slicing off a chunk of CGNat space (since this doesn't need to be a routable address in our case, just a "real" IP), to assign to all our CPE's so that we can get traps moving.

I have no idea what you are trying to do. Can you explain? You command does not make sense to me. Why do you use -define bmp:format=bmp3 when you are creating a PNG output?
