E&M Type5

Post by wolfgar »

Hi guys,

I would like to ask about E&M-4TL board of Crystal Hardware. It seems supported only E&M type1 and type2 regarding the system document. Is it possible to connect E&M type5 as well?

I have a new project and have to connect OXE to another PABXs (probably NEC SV8500 and Panasonic Digaport. Both are Japanese PABX). Please advise.

Best Regards,

 E&M?
Oh God, did not touch that stuff for a decade at least.
Yes, EMTL supports only Type I and II.
But you can easily connect Type II with Type V trunks with proper wiring. PM me.
If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.

Hi Alex,

Thank you for your reply.

>Oh God, did not touch that stuff for a decade at least.
As Japanese PABX, it's standard still...

>But you can easily connect Type II with Type V trunks with proper wiring. PM me.
Thank you for your advising.
BTW, do you have any good doc of the connection between EMTL and Type V trunk?

I have a sketch on a paper of connection between switches.
Check any docs on E&M available - e.g, Cisco has a few very good documents on that. See Understanding and Troubleshooting Analog E&M Interface Types and Wiring Arrangements
Also It depends which equipment you're trying to connect - two PABX' together (in this case connection is crossed E->M, M->E) or PABX and MUX (in that case connection is E->E, M->M).
If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck.

Hi Alex,

Thank you so much for your advising.

I will confirm it with an engineer of another bender PABX.

Cisco used to have a very good page on E&M signalling but seems they (re)moved it. This one is pretty good E & M Signaling.
And here goes my sketch.

Thanks for your support, but I cannot see your image and even cannot download it from URL.
Could you send your image to my email ( chs0805@gmail.com ) ?
Again, thank you very much in advance.

Hi Alex,

Thanks for your information, but unfortunately, my partner fails to interworking between Type 2 on ELTM and Type 5 on other PBX.
Since I and my partner are not familiar with E&M and especially ELTM, could you check what is the correct configuration for Type 2 on ELTM ?
My partner tried the last 2 configurations, Open switching – 4 Wire and Closed switching – 4 Wire (Ma and Mb Transmission Xi03, Xi04, Xi05, Xi06).

Is it correct for Type 2 ? And is there any other required configuration for Type 2 ?
Any advice will be highly appreciated and thanks in advance for your help.
