Why oxe need SBC

Post by rusintha »

Admin, pls delete if this topic is not in right place.

Hi Guys,

Hope someone works to Alcatel directly can answer my question.

1. Why alcatel oxe/oxo still needs SBC device for sip trunks?
2. Why they do not focus to develop sbc on release itself as a free feature like ISDN?

It is very hard to convince SM customers to spend $$$ for minimum 20 ch SBC

There are many third party pbx eg: Asterisk in very low cost will support to any SIP porviders system itself and no pain to install and setup.

Hope alcatel will understand business requirements to win the market.

Very frustrating as a vendor.

Thanks
Melan

Already answered you on another post. Is how SIP works. Not Alcatel decision.
Asterisk as Free BOX has a STUN server.
You will see the same for other vendors.
You need to learn more about SIP so you can defend your points on customer

for small customers normally a OXO would be used and that product has good intergration to SIP providers. OXE normally used for more complex solutions so SBC not such a big componant portion.
in case of OXO it is possible to use seperate vlan for VoIP which allows connection very easy to a SIP trunk delivered on a seperate connection or use the NAT service to simply connect to a internet SIP provider.
one issue with SIP is that so many providers suppy with different RFC's its hard to keep pace on the PABX and use of an SBC gives the most flexible way to match the PABX to the carrier.
I suggest if you concentrate in the SM market to look at how easy and cheaply the OXO can connect with at worst a layer 2 switch in the network (when using the seperate vlan for voip) or infact nothing required if you use the OXO NAT feature,
