OMC Databases lost with windows update

Post by dtmftones »

I have systematiclly lost my customer databases under OMC after windows update. It appears to be due to update monthly rollup KB4041681 under Windows 7. One machine lost access to the databases and showed several errors on trying to open the databases. I had 2 versions of OMC (version 9 and version 10) on one machine and both versions of OMC suffered this problem after windows updates. So I installed a newer recent version of OMC 21 and it has the same issues. The database.omc file does not seem to be found but rather its looking for database.xls .
On an older backup laptop everything was working ok until it started to update windows . The machines are both Win7 and had the KB4041681 update in common. After un-installing the microsoft update on both machines I found that OMC seems to function ok again on all versions.

Looking in the OBDC sources setup while the KB4041681 update was installed revealed that OMC was missing as a source.

I dont know if there is a work around for this and precisely what was broken but it has been a frustrating and scary time trying to work out what happened to OMC because it was not discovered until a few days after the update from microsoft.

Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

Tony

Hello,

Same thing here.

Hmm. Interesting. Never noticed it both with Windows 7 and Windows 10 Pro (x86).
Have you tried to change default DB folder to another drive/another folder in Options/Parameters? I always keep DBs on another drive - it's just more convenient for files archiving.

deinstall worked, but win 10 will install it again immediately. I´m trying to manage manual update Installation with local group policies. maybe it will prevent the installation

Yes , shutdown was pending.
After restart of the PC OMC is broken.
