McAfee says IPView contains a virus

Post by mikecel79 »

I went to use IPView this morning and noticed the exe was missing. After downloading it from http://www.ipview-analyzer.de and installing it again McAfee says it contains a virus. It detects it as New Poly Win32 virus. It looks like since the Dec 23rd DAT file it detects it as a virus. Anyone else run into this?

I got the following answer:

In Mcafee SecurityCenter - > Computer&Files -> Virus-Protect is active-> more , disable "Search for Unknown Viruses"

:? But wouldn't it affect the whole system? Maybe a good option would be to add the EXE itself to some exclusion list...

Problem Fixed
Avert™ Sample Analysis
Issue Number:5082009
Virus Research Analyst: Mark Olea
Filename: ipview.exe_
Detected as / in DAT: New Poly Win32 / 5500
Identified: No Virus/Trojan
McAfee Avert™ Labs, Singapore

Thank you for submitting your suspicious file.
Synopsis -

Our Senior Virus Research Engineers have examined the file in question and no virus was found.

Solution -

Attached is an extra.dat with correct detection. This correction will be included in the next DAT update.

EXTRA.DAT

This should be used with any of the McAfee AV Scanners.
The file should be copied into the directory where the other DAT files reside.
Using the find/search utility on your computer search for the following file:
SCAN.DAT

Then copy the Extra.dat we have sent you to the same folder where one of the above is located.
Once you have copied the file, reboot the system for the driver to be loaded.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
