Start with simple FTP service (not anonymous, logins from BPWS) to download software.
If you need to download a ~2GB DVD image by http:// it could be nightmare.

Oh, and have an OC12 or OC3 to the net. Not a T1. It takes for EVER to download shit from there.

Why OC3? some DSL just for downloading? or IPoCATV?
Works very, very well and it's reasonable priced.

How about a single website with all software, documentation, support (e-service), ect... on the same site with a single sign on, copy from Cisco if you have to!
Hire someone with web design experience! The current layout/format sucks. I know dozens of people I can put you in contact with that do great work...
Download speeds could be increased as mentioned, downloading large files takes half a day currently.
Simple access for customers for product related information as well as documentation with no login needed. If it's one thing I always hear from customers is I can't find a damn thing on the Alcatel-Lucent website. Whether they just bought something or they are looking at buying something.
Last but not least, a link to this forum on the main page that says Alcatel Community!
