OS6250 Max unit per stack

Post by jen0va »

Hi everyone,

How many max unit per stack does the OS6250 can be extendable to ?

In 6.6.1 release, I noticed 8. But I heard about 16 in futures firmwares. I would know if anyone knows if this firmware is available ?

Is 6.6.2 release only available for Metro models ? BTW even in this release, max unit per stack is still at 8.

Thanks in advance.

According to Release Notes release 6.6.2.R01 is only supported on OmniSwitch 6250 Metro models.

I don't know exact answer to your question about max units per stack.
In datasheet for OS6250 is stated that maximum unit per stack is 8 and that "16 units available in future software release". I search release notes for last software version 6.6.1.791R01 and didn't found any information about max units per stack. So my conclusion is that currently OS6250 supports max 8 units per stack. I appreciate if someone else has newer information.

Hi nikolami,

Thanks for your reply.
I think i'll keep checking if this feature is updated in future software and i'll reply to this topic when it will up to 16 or more than 8 unit per stack.
I'm providing AOS solutions (6850 & 6250) in an IT service in a company for a large project (~40 high schools) (W2K8 server infrastructure and NPS 2K8 (802.1x Radius) integration) So that's why I would know about max unit per stack because in some case (heavy distribution in high school), 8*6250 at the same local distribution are not enough. So I have to make 2*8*6250 and have to use more SFP in order to join the CORE (6850)

Btw, sorry for my poor english, I'm french ;)

Best regards,

Hi,

Please note that if you have the BOS6250-xx models that they are actually two switches stacked together in a 1 U rack to create 48 port switch.
So that means that you are only able to Stack 4 x BOS6250 in total. Or any combination up till 8 x 24 port models.

Bit confusing indeed. Still no news about the 16 unit stacking upgrade.

Hello,

I was unable to create a 4 Alcatel Omniswitch 6250 stack using 4 24P switchs. Software Version 6.7.1.76.R04 GA, October 18, 2016. I used as reference the OmniSwitch 6250 Hardware Users Guide manual from October 2016. By default the switches are set to standalone and after i change them to stackable mode i turn them off, connect the stack cables and power them on one by one at a 15 second difference (as instructed by manual). After they boot i can see the following information:

-> show stack topology
Link A Link A Link B Link B
NI Role State Saved Link A Remote Remote Link B Remote Remote
Slot State NI Port State NI Port
----+-----------+--------+------+-------+-------+-------+-------+-------+-------
1 PRIMARY RUNNING 1 UP 1002 StackB UP 1001 StackA
1001 PASS-THRU UNKNOWN 1 UP 1 StackB UP 253 StackA
1002 PASS-THRU UNKNOWN 1 UP 253 StackB UP 1 StackA

As you can see only 3 from the 4 members are visible in the stack topology. I try renaming the 1001 and 1002 slot to 2 and 3. The problem is that when i try to rename the 1002 to slot 3 the following prompt is returned:

-> show stack topology
Link A Link A Link B Link B
NI Role State Saved Link A Remote Remote Link B Remote Remote
Slot State NI Port State NI Port
----+-----------+--------+------+-------+-------+-------+-------+-------+-------
1 PRIMARY RUNNING 1 UP 1002 StackB UP 2 StackA
2 SECONDARY RUNNING 2 UP 1 StackB UP 253 StackA
1002 PASS-THRU UNKNOWN 1 UP 253 StackB UP 1 StackA

-> stack set slot 1002 saved-slot 3 reload
Confirm set slot operation with reload (Y/N)?
ERROR: saved-slot 3 out of range [1..2]

Do I need to place a particular command in the cli in order to increase the slot range? Do I need to recheck the stack cables (1A2B,2A3B,3A4B,4A1B) ?

The metro models (6250M) where limited to 2 per stack (stacking with DAC). All others with HDMI stacking up to 8.
