6800 stacked no console output

I have a 6800-48 set as 3 in a stack, but I dont have the primary.
I can't get ANY console output, and I've tried every terminal emulation setting there is. tried using straight through, crossover, roll over, direct serial to serial. nothing, but the unit boots up and displays 3 on the front indicator display. It DOES PASS TRAFFIC, so I assume its working. I've crossed checked my terminal settings with the 6800 manuals and I'm at a loss.

bobcollege. It is confirmed that if you don't have the primary, you won't get into the console on the stacks.
