phone identifier for ip desktop softphone
phone identifier for ip desktop softphone
Hello,
Does anyone know how the phone identifier is being calculated when the ip desktop softphone is being installed?
I expected it to use one of the physical mac addresses present in the system but that's not the case.
Is the phone identifier stored somewhere on the system?
Until now I haven't found an answer on both questions.
I hope one of you can help
Regards,
Rens

What is phone identifier?
The Mac is the one of the network interface you choose on configuration later.

Re: phone identifier for ip desktop softphone
Hello cavagnaro,
I wish it was the mac address. Sometimes the last few octets seem to be the same as one interface but not Always.
please see screenshot below with the different mac addresses in my machine and the Phone identifier generated in the IPDSP. By the way I'm using the latest available version on the BPWS 11.0.28.
Regards,
Rens

Is because the last check box marked. Is a virtual one that will be kept no matter which interface you use, wireless or Ethernet

Re: phone identifier for ip desktop softphone
Somehow changing this value either ticking or unticking the box doesn't change anything for me.
I'll see what an older version does with this option.

Just tested with version 10.0.0.7, same behaviour. Ticking or unticking the box doesn't change anything for me.
The mac address being used must be stored somewhere, but where?

I think is created "virtually" so you don't have to care on OXE side about it when changing interfaces. Why does it matter?

Re: phone identifier for ip desktop softphone
We want to roll out 300 ip desktop softphones as a desk sharing set.
We can globally push the software installation throughout the company but then we need to log into each client installation to assign the DSS
I was hoping to avoid the hassle

Re: phone identifier for ip desktop softphone
Does someone found a sollution for this???
I have some PCs with IP Desktop Softphones and when different users start diferent session the application starts with a different Phone ID, so the Softphone does not connects because it is attached to an erlier phone Identifier.
It has to be a way!!!

Installing the software as an agent softphone will at least make sure each different user who logs on to the workstation gets assignd the same mac address.
That's the only thing I managed to find. Logging the user in to another workstation will result in a different mac address for the same user but atleast with DSS and DSU you are able to get a litle bit working sollution
