Post by HUSSAINQCS »

Hi All,

I need to connect the core switch of alcatel 6900-X20 with controller i have created the new vlan 10 in the controller & in core switch as well both are connected by Fiber.

But still i cant able to ping the controller ip from the core switch & vice-versa.

Please can anyone help me to resolve the same.

You will understand, that we are not able to understand your setup until you provide more details?
So I would check at first if there is set up an IP interface on VLAN 10 for both devices in the same subnet.

And the port to the WLAN Controller is untagged (or tagged) on both devices.
And there is no additional cable between 6900 and 4550 (RSTP will block one of these links, afaik there is no 1x1 on 4550.

Provide configs / more details

Thanks for your information

I made the connection ready now it is working

i made trunk port in controller & core switch i made as untagged port now i can able to reach from core switch to controller & vice versa but i was not able to reach the edge switch which is installed in one of guest floor in the hotel.

what configuration to be done to make communicate between 3 (wlan controller+coresw+6450) ?

please i want to make all the Access points which is connecting in the edge switch 6450 and to all the AP's ip will be given by controller dhcp

In controller

i create vlan 10 with ip interface 10.200.200.11 mask 255.255.248.0 for the port 2 of controller

In core switch

i create vlan 20 with ip interface 10.200.200.1 mask 255.255.248.0 for the port 1/1/13
port 13 is untagged

In edge switch

i create vlan 50 with ip interface 10.200.200.1 mask 255.255.248.0 for the port 1/49 where the fiber up links coming from the core switch.

Also i tried configured the edge switch port both tagged & untagged but still i was unable to reach the edge switch from the core & controller & viceversa.

Scenario : connecting controller+core sw+edge sw -where Access points are connecting there is a one fiber up-link from controller to core sw & also from core sw to edge switch one fiber up link access points need to get the ip from DHCP of controller.

i need your support actually i configured controller vlan 10 as trunk port & core switch as vlan 90 as untagged after that in edge switch i configured as vlan 112 as default

i connected the laptop in edge switch i can able to ping the controller ip from edge switch continuously but from edge switch to core switch was not pinging continuously im getting random REQUEST TIMED OUT once again it starts to ping ?

What could be the issue & whether my configuration is right?

The problem got resolved after giving dhcp mode in laptop and then when i try to ping the controller & core switch pinging is 100% without RTO.

In the Edge switch 6450-POE-48(1) the fiber up-link is directly coming from the core switch to port no 49 and all the other 4 switches are stacked each other

like

6450-P48 - 1 -------------- FOR ACCESS POINTS
6450-48- 2 --------------- FOR DATA
6450-48- 3 ---------------- FOR IPTV
6450-P24- 4 ------------------FOR AP
6450-24-5 5 ----------------- FOR BOTH DATA & IPTV

But now what is the problem i cant able to reach my core switch from other 4 switches not from the 1 one.

i trying to put my laptop in the other than 1 switch and try to ping the core switch IP 10.200.200.1 it is giving destination host unreachable

what could be the issue?

then how the 4 switches will communicate with core switch

If you want to communicate from your laptop connected to edge switches to core switch ip 10.200.200.1 you have to configure vlan 90 on ALL your trunking ports and at least one port on edge switches with vlan 90 access or you have to configure ip router with access to vlan 90 and setup a route to this gateway.

But how from edge switch-1 i can able to reach core switch ?? not from the other switches which is stacked with the edge switch-1

If you want to connect vlan 90 on core switch with vlan 112 on edge switch, you have to set the uplink default vlan to 90 for port 1/1/49
But in general it is not a good design to jump between different vlan. It would be much easier to tag vlan 90 on uplink ports to your edge switches and to use it straight through your infrastructure for management of your wifi.
