Multicast Spoofing and Proxying?

Post by mperezATX »

Hello,

What do the 'Proxying' and 'Spoofing' settings do for multicast on the 6450? I can't find anything concrete on what these settings are or why one would want to enable or disable them? Same for "Robustness". Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

normaly you don't need this settings.
Proxying is to optimize the igmp membership request from access switches (where mc receiver are attached) to the querier switch. The access switches will create table of all the mc members. So the access switch knows all the active mc sessions. And if there is a new IGMP request (join) for an active mc group, the access switch didn't need to send this message to the querier.
IGMP spoofing replaces a client MAC and IP address with the system MAC and IP address, when proxying aggregates IGMP group membership informations.
In the cli guide for the R8-Switches (f.e. OS6860) you will find some better descriptions (this are the same functions)
