Dead ports on 6860

Post by sitig »

Hi All

I have 2 x 6860s configured in Virtual Chassis mode. Our system admin engineer configured NIC Teaming from the servers and connected both NICs to the chassis, one leg on each chassis. He must have connected both NICs without completing his configuration. The problem I am facing now is that the ports he used on chassis 2 are unusable. When I connect a device to those ports, the status changed to forwarding but no traffic is flowing.

Grateful for any assistance.

Cheers.

Hi,
it's possible to reboot chassis 2? Did this solve the issue?
What is output of show interfaces 2/0/xx? decreases the RX-values?

In seldom cases I have seen similar problem. Than delete of all port specific commands have helped.
Search in your config for it with "show config snapshot | grep 2/0/xx"
Sometimes it was helffull to admin down/up the ports, to disable autoneg and enable it again (oder at SFP-ports only disable). If you have tagging at the ports - delete it etc.

Hi Silvio

Thank you for your response. Honestly, I was hoping for you to respond, I'm glad you did.

I did a reboot of chassis 2. Last night I removed Chassis 2 from the VC, wiped out the config and ran it as a standalone. I can see that my machines MAC was registered against the port but still no traffic flow.

show interfaces result below, nothing on RX:
Chassis/Slot/Port 2/1/2 :
Operational Status : up,
Last Time Link Changed : Mon Jun 13 08:52:24 2016,
Number of Status Change: 1,
Type : Ethernet,
SFP/XFP : N/A,
EPP : Disabled,
Link-Quality : N/A,
MAC address : 2c:fa:a2:1d:f2:f9,
BandWidth (Megabits) : 1000, Duplex : Full,
Autonegotiation : 1 [ 1000-F 100-F 100-H 10-F 10-H ],
Long Frame Size(Bytes) : 9216,
Rx :
Bytes Received : 0, Unicast Frames : 0,
Broadcast Frames: 0, M-cast Frames : 0,
UnderSize Frames: 0, OverSize Frames: 0,
Lost Frames : 0, Error Frames : 0,
CRC Error Frames: 0, Alignments Err : 0,
Tx :
Bytes Xmitted : 14076, Unicast Frames : 0,
Broadcast Frames: 37, M-cast Frames : 137,
UnderSize Frames: 0, OverSize Frames: 0,
Lost Frames : 0, Collided Frames: 0,
Error Frames :

Port is in forwarding mode but no traffic flow.

Noting special configured on the port. Just Vlan assignment, that's all.

Also did admin down/up to no avail.

I'm currently liaising with AL as well and they analysing the logs now. Will update if I get anything from them.

In the meantime, I'm open to any more suggestions.

Best.

Siti

Hi Silvio

I got it sorted now after going through the pain of downgrading and then upgrading the firmware, I finally confirmed that the ports were in fact physically faulty. I need to wiggle the patch leads in order for traffic to flow, wiggling the patch leads sort of seated the patch leads contacts with port pins properly. I had the first 4 ports having this issue. So its a hit and miss with these 4 ports, I've decided not to use them at the moment and hopefully the switch will be replaced under warranty.

Best Regards

Siti.

okey...
This are the POE++ ports (at 6860E). Than maybe there is a hardware issue.
