Stacking

Post by dstrait »

I am having an issue trying to stack two new 6860E switches. No matter what I try, I get a duplicate chassis identifier issue. Even though I try change the identifier (virtual-chassis chassis-id 101 configured-chassis-id 2) the situation remains.

What am I missing?

there are some things to know..... but the best way will be the following:
- disconnect the connections between the switches
- delete the vcsetup.cfg in working of all switches (and also the vcconfig.cfg)
- reload from working at all switches
- and connect them again
Now you have to wait 10...20 minutes and all is fine.

On a side note, does stacking rely on the SPB protocol to work effectively?

I think it is kinda used internally in AOS 7/8 (6900/6860/...) but afaik not on the AOS6 (6250/6450/6850) based releases.

But only Alcatel knows for sure and they are not going to tell. ;-)
