Alcatel Switches: How do I show users stored in local user database?

Post by JohnNorthWest »

Hi Forum

We have just took over managing Alcatel switches from a previous IT management company.
I don't have experience with them, only with Cisco & Juniper.

I want to change the password for the user.

I log on using the CLI and run the following command:
#show user
This shows me the default user, an admin and a snmp user.

I then run the command:
#write terminal

However, I was expecting to see lines with "user <name> password <password>" as I thought the users were stored locally.
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/95812 ... l?page=246

But I don't see any!
All I see related to users are the following 2 lines:
aaa authentication default "local"
aaa authentication snmp "local"

I'm confused now whether the users that I see when running the command "show user" are users configured in the local database. And if they are, why am I not seeing them in the output from "write terminal"?

Please could somebody advise how I see what users are configured in the local user database?

I want to make sure that the users are configured in the local user database before I try and change any password!!!

Thanks for your patience with which is hopefully a very simple question!

Users are never shown in running configurations on Alcatel Switches.

"show user" shows all locally stored users, that's about it.
