Where in the system are the text messages stored and held

Where in the system are the text messages stored and held?
I have looked through all documentation and do not see anywhere where it states where there are stored until the user deletes them

Found where they are held and now seeing if there is a way to read the file. Will update if I find out anything

File is MAIL_FIC

That file seem to be usually 1000 records of 378 bytes.
But i looks like there is no automatic cleaning of obsolete messages?
Here the file still has records from 2010.
