What does Directed call pickup fron Ascom IP DECT to OXE?

Post by Dictograf »

Hi,
My first post here.
I'm not a SIP or OXE expert, but I am expected to be!
I'm qualified on OXOs though.
Anyway.......

I have a customer who has an ASCOM IP DECT system connected to an OXE.
I was asked " How do we do a directed call pickup from the Ascom cordless"
IE: To pickup a call ringing on a specific OXE extension.
Can you tell me which of the following is correct:
1. You have to dial the code (the OXE code) on the Ascom DECT which then sends the code to the OXE as DTMF.
2. You dial an ASCOM code on the handset (or it is found as a menu option) the ASCOM translates this to a standard SIP code for directed call pickup and sends the SIP code to the OXE.
3. I've got it completely wrong, and this is how it is done...........

I hope somone can help.
Thankyou

If your users are declared as SIP extensions, yes you can use prefixes and sufixes behind OXE (SIP DTMF).
If your users are declared as SIP Device --> not possible.

Can you detail the architecture of linking Ascom DECT system to Alcatel OXE (are users SIP extensions on OXe or on Ascom system? -->it is not clear).

I was told by one of our OXE engineers that they are sip extensions.

the Ascom Main base station is connected to a switch port. there are slave bases as well, all ip linked.
The OXE sees the Ascom handsets as sip extensions.

I did see in the Ascom a table for call forwarding codes, but perhaps these are set responses kept in the ascom for when the oxe tries to establish a call.
The Ascomm engineer advised me that he is unaware of any programming to do with this feature.
So the ascom would have to send it to the OXE as a unprocessed dtmf string.
These are my thoughts.

So are they SIP extensions or SIP device declared on OXE?

You should be able to use DTMF to access OXE's prefixes and sufixes. What DTMF mode does Ascom use?

There are different DTMF modes?
Sorry, I don't normally go that deep into the complexity of systems.
Unfortunetly I don't have an OXE or Ascom lying around the office that I can test with.
I have to wait for some other fault to occur at one of our customers who have this setup.
And I only have 2 sites with this combination.
So testing may have to wait for a few months. Sigh.

You need to use RFC2833 (out of band DTMF) on Ascom, in order to work with Alcatel (moreover of you use compression like g729).
