Is it partially dead or just really not in shape?

Post by eldertoon »

Hi,

I read a lot of documentations and I am not sure what is happening. My goal: I would like to confirm if one of our OmniPCX office large that is hosted on a site in Africa is doing well. In technical term: yes (phone system is up), except we do not have the passwords. As far as I investigated: a contract was on this hardware but they refuse to give away the passwords and the contract is now over. Why do not take another one? Please read below.

So I started to investigate. First: it seems the CONFIG port is not responding. I understood that the speed should be set to 115200 but there is no reaction when booting the device. I suppose the cable needed is not the same as a standard Cisco console port. Can you please confirm? This is because I found here: https://www.alcatelunleashed.com/viewtopic.php?t=13333, a description of the cabling and here: https://cables24.com/en/others/alcatel- ... -male-rj45. Why having a console cable access would help? I am an advanced newbie in OmniPCX (I sometimes log and follow already written documentation) and I need to understand if signing a contract with another company will mean they will start from scratch or if they will be able to verify and continue the existing config. But why the console cable? Because I suppose they will use something like https://gembuls.wordpress.com/2012/06/1 ... t-omnipcx/ and this is the first step. I can request them? No, because I have only sales contacts and no one wants to investigate before signing the contract... Note that this is now a 2 years issue...

About the shape of the system: I have suspicion that this hardware is totally firmware outdated (or maybe EOL?). In the documentation, I found that I should be able to https://ip_address/admin. This page gives out a message that it doesn't exists. https://ip_address work and display a "My IC Web Office" and "Certificats" (I suppose it detects I am using a french browser?). I also find in this forum https://ip_address/services/webapp and it requires a password (that I do not have). So I suspect this hardware has never been updated (in its 12 years of age). What is the impact? Well, if I should sign for something, I need to understand all that will not be in the contract (upgrades). The vendor will tell me: I bet not. Most of the offers are from companies that do not even ask for the serial number of the hardware. Suspicious? No, that the way they work there.

hi -
If you are the owner of the system, you should have the password which comes with it.
There are plenty of software upgrades coming out every year. Who is your business partner? You might be able to ask ALE for help in Africa.
