Show power output explanation please

Post by Systems_OK »

Greetings network gurus!

I'm new to alcatel lucent switches, I come from a cisco background.

I've been trying to get some explanation on the show power output detail but nothing that really answers my question as yet. I've looked in the CLI help but it's not helping. :(

This is my output for show power :

switch-> show power
Slot PS Wattage Type Status Location
----+----+---------+------+-----------+----------
1 1 510 AC UP External
1 2 -- -- -- --
1 3 510 AC UP External
2 1 510 AC UP External
2 2 -- -- -- --
2 3 510 AC UP External

But it doesn't solve my questions below :

1. How many total power supplies units are connected ?
I'm guessing it's two, because it shows 2 lots.

2. What does PS means and why is PS 1 and 3 filled with the same value ?

This is the example from the CLI guide :

-> show power
Slot PS Wattage Type Status Location
----+----+---------+------+-----------+----------
1 600 AC UP Internal
2 600 AC UP Internal
3 -- -- -- --
4 600 IP UP External
5 600 IP UP External
6 600 IP UP External
7 600 IP UP External
-> show power 5
Module in slot PS-5
(Power Shelf slot 5)
Model Name: OS-IPS-600A,
Description: ILPS AC,
Part Number: 902252-10,

Day 2 of my search.

I found another example from a link in the forum :
Usage Guidelines
When the show power command is entered on stackable switches, information is displayed only for power
supplies that are installed in the chassis and powered on. If a power supply is present in a power supply
bay, but the power supply is unplugged or its on/off switch is in the off position, the power supply is not
listed in the command output.
Examples
-> show power
Slot PS Wattage Type Status Location
----+----+---------+------+-----------+----------
1 1 530 AC UP Internal
1 2 -- -- -- --
2 1 530 AC UP Internal
3 1 320 AC UP Internal
4 1 600 AC UP External
supply Optional command syntax.
number The single-digit number for a specific power supply installed in the
chassis. If no power supply number is specified, information for all
power supplies is displayed.
output definitions
Slot The slot number of the power supply.
PS The power supply number.
Wattage The wattage of the power supply.
Type The type of power supply. Options include AC or DC.
Status The operational status of the power supply. Options include UP or
DOWN.
Location The location of the power supply. Options include Internal or External.

Based on what I understand from this output, it's not making it any easier to find out how many power supplies are connected. I now know PS stands for power supply number, I'm almost certain there's a typo somewhere in the manual. I got this from the OmniSwitch AOS Release 6250/6350/6450 CLI Reference Guide.

AFAIK you have two power Supplys on each Stack-member.
Switch 1: Power Supply Slot 1 &3
Switch 2: Power Supply Slot 1 &3
Each Powersupply is a 510 W PoE and they are connected to "Power - Ports" 1 and 3
If i remember correctly you have 3 connectors at the back of each switch 1 &2 next to each other (for 2 small Power Supplys mounted on the back)
there is a third connector near the stack ports, as a 900W Power supply will cover the second connector on the back, as it is so wide.

PS means power supply and you have used the same (Wattage) power Supplys to provide redundant power.
