Need help troubleshooting a port

Post by akke023 »

Dear Alcatel,

While trying to troubleshoot some issues on one of our switches, I came across a few errors that I can't decipher, could you perhaps help me out?

First, we noticed that 1/1/12 went down quite regularly, and I have tried looking into logs to figure it out.

The port itself looks fine:

Code: Select all

show interfaces port 1/1/12
Chassis/Slot/Port : 1/1/12
 Operational Status : down,

 Late collisions : 0, Exc-Collisions : 0
Except for the "Number of Status Change", I don't see anything out of the ordinary.

The errors I need help with are:

Code: Select all

swlogd intfNi Drv INFO: eniApplyConfig: cmd:34 zport:11 cmdHy:0, apMedia:2
swlogd portMgrNi main INFO: : [pmnHALLinkStatusCallback:206] LINKSTS 1/1/12 DOWN (gport 0xb) Speed 10 Duplex HALF
swlogd stpNi _SOKt INFO: stpnimsg_processMsgFromPM: PM_LINK_STATUS_MSGID gPort=xb linkStatus=0
swlogd intfNi Drv INFO: niEsmSendLinkStatusChgMsg(1058): linkstatus DOWN sent on peerId=1
swlogd intfCmm Mgr EVENT: CUSTLOG CMM Link 1/1/12 Alias XXXXX operationally down
swlogd intfCmm Mgr INFO: cmmEsmHandleNiMsg: Rx CMM_ESM_LINK_STATUS_CHG from chassis 1 NI 1
swlogd portMgrNi main INFO: : [pmnHALLinkStatusCallback:206] LINKSTS 1/1/12 UP (gport 0xb) Speed 1000 Duplex FULL
They appear is this order aswell.
Mainly what interest me is:
  • eniApplyConfig: cmd:34 zport:11 cmdHy:0, apMedia:2
  • [pmnHALLinkStatusCallback:206]
Because the first seems to always happen right before the outage. And the second seems to be the reason of the outage, but I have not clue what it means.

Thanks as always!

The Port Speed is flapping which is usually an indication for a bad cable or bad inhouse cabling.

Okay, I figured 1/1/9 might've been cable related because:
CRC Error Frames: 1180
Could they both be cable related?

yes, the reason for crc errors are mostly bad connection (fibre and copper).

Thanks for clarifying the CRC errors.
My last remaining question is, why would the other port (1/1/12) dropping connection so often? (at least twice a day)

I am also leaning towards a faulty connection or cable (not on the switches side)
But are there any commands/tests I can perform to make sure it is either the cable or device connected?
I know a TDR test can check if the cable is still in order, but I'm assuming I can't check the device problems from the switch, or can I?

Thanks in advance,
you guys are the best! :)

I don't know tools at the switch to find out the reason for this. You have to find out direct at the connected device...
You can exchange to devices and/or cables at there switch ports. So you can see the issue based in the device, cable or the switch.
