Creating new DST in OXE4400

Post by clanun »

Hi people, I'm needing help.
I have a OXE4400 R6.0.1, and in my country (GMT-3) we have't standard Daylight Saving time.
I wish to set up a TZ daylight saving to make the change without human intervention. :)

The local DST starts the first Sunday of March at 2:00am (from GMT-3 to GMT-2) and finish the second Sunday of March at the same time (from GMT-2 to GMT-3).

Can I create a new TZ with this profile?.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards
Claudio

By my knowledge you cannot. But there are several workarounds like:
-time synchro from PSTN via ISDN lines if the provider supports it
-time sync from an NTP server

Regards.

Hi tot3nkopf, I think my problem isn't the sync of the clock, is the timezone.
I needing to change the timezone automatically, as normally does the Daylight Saving time.
The DST, don't change the clock, change the timezone.

Thanks a lot.

DST doesn't change the timezone, it changes the clock. The timezone your specify tells the PCX whether or not to use DST.

Ok, I'm really confused.
I have experience with linux, the OXE is new for me.

In linux you have the Real Time Clock, and you can see it with "hwclock", then you have to say to the operating system what timezone you are (GMT-2, GMT+3, etc.) so the command "date" make the conversion to display.
Remember, I don't have any experience with OXE, but my mind is open.

My original question is: Can I make a new Timezone to setup in:
swinst/ expert menu/ system management/ date&time update/ set timezone?.
It's possible?

Sorry for my poor english.

The PCX should automatically update the DST without human intervention assuming you are in a timezone that follows DST. What countrly are you in?

To answer your question, I am also unaware of any way to create a new TZ.

Google is the answer (no wonder Google' shares go higher and higher  )
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=ma ... gle+Search
It is really nice doc covering how TZ are created in Linux.
Also in Linux try "man zic", "man tzfile".

For clanun - when you select your timezone - you select GMT -2 or choose your country?

My country is Uruguay and we don't follow standard DST times, here the government say when to change the summer hour. :?
Is like the example of Brazil (3.3), in the link (tnx! tgn) http://avi.alkalay.net/linux/docs/TimeP ... ision.html.

That's work, but... I found a little surprise.
Ex. In my phones I see 10:00am, the "hwclock" (the RTC) show me 09:00am and the "date" command show me "Wed Oct 10 10:00:00 GMT-3 2007".
The "timeconfig" is in the GMT-3 zone, and the "Hardware clock set to GMT" is set.
When I change my TZ from -3 to -2, only change the displayed hour with "date" not in the phones...

In others words, something is wrong or I can't see a piece of this puzzle.
The logic say, If local time is (GMT-3) is 10am, the GMT0 should be 01pm.

Another doubt, I tested the new timezone, but only change the date in linux, not in the phones.
I think who the OXE can setup a different TZ for the phones, and here could be my solution.
