Hi travis1,
I have tried exactly as you have mentioned. I started with a empty database where I will see the two App Server nicely in the virtual shelf 0. But I still end up with the same setup as my previous post. I dont even see error messages that u have mentioned. I only got warnings like below:
Warning rack 256: OPS, invalid location at line 159
Warning rack 18: OPS, invalid location at line 178
Warning rack 257: OPS, invalid location at line 196
Warning rack 258: OPS, invalid location at line 214
Warning rack 2-254: unknown rack type at line 315
Warning rack 0: found in MAO, not in OPS
Warning rack 19: found in MAO, not in OPS
It didnt move the shelf 0 to shelf 1. In fact, I've tried these procedures before.
I dont think its so straight forward. Somehow, something must be done to change the shelf 0 to a virtual shelf from a Main Shelf where the App Server sits. Are you sure there's no other special steps you have done?
Any other suggestions?
Thanx.

Upgrading from CPU6 to Appliance Server. How to migrate MAO?

Re: Upgrading from CPU6 to Appliance Server. How to migrate MAO?
This migration is covered in the TC's that come with the Release Software.
The steps to migrate from CPU to AS is:
− Delete the CPU's in the database (Slots 0-6 and 0-20)
− Move shelves 18 & 19 if they exist to next number's available
− Backup the database
− Install the R8 (or whatever) software on the Appliance Server.
− Load the site database.
− Load the site Chorus data.
− Do not start the telephone.
− Install the OPS files.
As the OPS files are loaded, board management will take place and RUNMAO will translate the database

Re: Upgrading from CPU6 to Appliance Server. How to migrate MAO?
Hi knightrider,
Thats great suggestion. I managed to delete the CPU6 on slot 6 and 20 while running it on the CPU6 board. Previously couldnt do it coz I was doing it on the App Server. Thanx to your suggestion. Finally something different I see.
But I'm unable or dont know how to move the virtual boards out of cristal 19. I've tried creating another similar shelf 20 but it doesnt allow me to do so with the error Hybrid rack must be unique. Is there a specific method for me to move this cristal 19?
Anyway, I try proceeding forward, copy over the mao from the CPU6 to the App Server and load it in, restore the OPS and all. But my boards are still on shelf 0. But now the difference is I can see the App Server being declared on slot 6. Thats a good sign. But still missing the slot 20 App Server. Below is what I get.

Re: Upgrading from CPU6 to Appliance Server. How to migrate MAO?
don't worry about shelf 19 in your case. The problem only exists when you have a real physical shelf 19 in older releases. Yours is already virtual.
Regards shelf 1 - no problem agaian, the translation engine should calculate the next free shelf number.
Did you follow steps exactly like my last post?
I think you need to declare INTIPB in slots 0-20 and 0-6 once you delete the CPU's then do the rest as per my list - because you should not end up with Appliance Servers in those slots like your screenshot!

Re: Upgrading from CPU6 to Appliance Server. How to migrate MAO?
Hi knightr1der,
Thank you for your suggestion.
I followed exactly as your step describes previously. Now I'm trying to declare the INTIPB board on the slot 6 and 20 after I have deleted the CPU6 board, but hits back with an error of bad physical address.
Anyway, I'm now trying to move the boards mannually to cristal 1 in CPU6. The extensions boards I can just use the MOVE feature easily but the rest like the ATR2, NDDI, NPRAE, INTIP have to recreate on cristal 1. I'll try and see whether I can manage to clear off all boards on shelf 0 manually or not and then export over to the App Server. I hope it works.
Anymore other suggestions?
By the way, what does the 'Reference rack number: 1' under the shelf 0 means?
Thanx.

FYS

Re: Upgrading from CPU6 to Appliance Server. How to migrate MAO?
I have successfully migrated over from shelf 0 to shelf 1!
Hi knightr1der, I have posted a reply for you but i dunno why issit not showing yet. Anyway, wanted to say that I am unable to create the INTIPB on the CPU slot becoz it keeps giving me error of Bad physical address.
So this is what I did.
Thanx to your tips, I managed to delete the CPU6 boards off shelf 0. Then I moved all the extension boards from 0 to 1. The rest of the trunk boards I have to recreate on shelf 1 manually. Finally, I delete the shelf 0. Backup the database, and load it into the AS with the new OPS.
After all the booting up, I can see the App Server nicely on shelf 0 slot 6 and 10. The rest of the boards on shelf 1. However the shelf 3 and 4 which supposed to be created by the OPS wasnt there. No big issue. I can recreate that again. Everything seems to be in order now.
Thank you everyone for your help. I can finally proceed with other implementations..
Thanx alot!!!
