Global Message Redundancy

Post by jbower »

Can anyone tell me if GMR has any known issues? I purchased this from a BP for the college I work at. We had a system crash 6 months ago. I decided that I would recommend GMR so as not to have a point of failure. Now the BP who I use to work for says that GMR is flakey and they would not recommend installing it even though they sold it to us. If it is problematic I do not want to install it. Has anyone had sucess using this product?

Well,
on MSBI you could have 2 HDD and use RAID1 (BTW: software raid, linux /dev/md* :p )
this provides some redundancy.

If you need more: sip voice mail, two (or more) processing servers and storage on imap (on two or more redundant imap servers)
the 4635 is old solution and does not evolve (like no sms notification, poor integration with anything..)
on common hw it's easy to have 4645 its only software and does not take place of 3 cards just for RAID1 and 8 accesses.

i would not invest in solutions that are 'old' like that, just service the installation: have 2 SPA3 cards, have a RAID1 with two new HDD (from different hdd series :p) etc...
Maybe some kind soul will say what has to offer OTUC suite:
integration with IMAP/Exchange (iirc MS supports duplication of IMAP/exchange servers)
redundant two or more OTUC servers...

Thanks for the info I take your point on the 4645 but would still need to recover the messages, I know you can back up 4645 with messages but can this be automated? if so should be easy enough to write a script to ftp off the system on a daily basis...

with 4760 you can automate backups. With 4760 Release 5 (according to Knight, I haven't seen it yet) you can select backups of anything that you can from the swinst menu so this should include 4645 with or without vmails.

So no one has really answered my question that i started this post with. I have a crystal arch PBX r7.1 with a 4635vm system. So what does anyone know about the stability of GMR? I could care less about 4645 because i do not have common hardware. I have Alcatel professional services coming to do an install and would like to know if there is problems with this product and if so what do you recommend. I use to work for BP as AQPS but have been out of it for a little while now. So if someone has a relevant answer i would appreciate it.

GMR-> not a road to go for me.
RAID1 on MSBI for messages in 4635 -> OK
plus vmail backup script (with or without OV).

Can you explain how to set up RAID1 on MSBI for messages in 4635 ? Is this an unsupported hack, or is it documented somewhere?

Cheers
