Remote Extension with Analog

Post by dizfunkshinal »

Hi there, I was told by my business partner many moons ago that I could acquire a Remote Extension license and used the remote extension to tandem a 4028 with an analog extension. Basically the reasoning is that there is an external ringer in a loud room connected to an analog extension. So the user wants to hear when their phone is ringing.

I've setup what I thought would be all that needed to be setup but I'm not getting the expected results.

I've created the Remote Extension user (Ext. 12536731). I created two multiline keys in the remote extension. Under remote extension I point it to the analog extension (Ext. 12536809).

In the users config I added extension 12536731 to the tandem listing. I would expect that when I dialed the users extension it should also ring the analog extension per my setup. This is new ground to me, am I completely in left field here or where have I screwed up my thinking?

Thanks as always, for your help.

Min management for remote extention:
create internal user (remote extention) - f.e. 3000;
user/ remote extention - manage number f.e. 01234567 (outgoing call prefix+external number);
create remote ext. DISA prefix;
create Speed Dial with call number like 01234567 (prefix+Caller ID) and ext. DISA number=3000;
create some analog user without equipment, Ghost Z=true, Ghost feature=remote extention.
You can call to remote extention (3000=01234567) only if exist "analog user without equipment, Ghost Z=true, Ghost feature=remote extention".
F.e. if you have 100 remote extention user (3000-3099) and two "analog user without equipment, Ghost Z=true, Ghost feature=remote extention" - you can establish only two calls simultaneously.

Hi vad!

Thanks for the reply. I think I follow your examples and explanation but I'm confused as to how an "outgoing call prefix+external number" would be involved in something that would strictly be utilized internally. I would think at some point I would need to reference either the Analog Shelf/Slot/Circuit or the analog extension number.

I'm probably just confused, let me know if you can guide me any further or if I'm beyond help :-)

Thanks again!

Remote extention - external set linked to internal user. F.e. you mobile linked to internal number.
If you just want to manage simultaneous ring on two sets (4028 and internal analog) - you can call analog set and for 4028 manage set supervision with ring (and for 4028 manage item - multiline properties/ take supervision at off hook=true).

Hi Vad!

Thanks for all your help, I'm just hard headed and I could not figure out why I needed to create the Analog Ghost Z extension, so since I couldn't figure it out I didn't create it. Once I finally created the Ghost Z extension it worked like a champ.

Can you let me know what the point/need of the Analog Ghost Z Extension?

Thanks as always for your help!

The question about simultaneous calls to remote extentions. The numbers of simultaneous allowed calls= numbers of the Analog Ghost Z Extension.
No analog extension - no calls to remote extension.

the main reason for the ghost Z is to have a point that the PCX monitors. The ghost Z is the extn that does all the work i.e. hold open the DTMF receivers to listen for codes dialled such as transfer, broker etc.

Internal phone ringing? For remote extention you need to create phone with equipment 255/255/255.
