Alcatel OXO's VPN site to site help!
We are using Alcatel OXO's in 9 offices and we need them to be connected via Site to Site to each other over the internet. Our alcatel vendor has tried a few things and was able to establish a site to site tunnel between all of the OXO's but we cant get traffic to travel over the tunnel. We need to use these tunnels only for 4 digit dialing and we are using digital phones not IP based. It sounds simple enough but it doesn't seem to want to work. Any advice?

for VOIP, one solution is installing another PCM2 card for R2 signaling or and ISDN card.
Additionally you need a router with VOIP module installed (in my case Cisco 2880)
Then you need to connect the PCM2 card with an RJ48 wire connection to the voice module of the router and configure the new trunk attached to the PCM as MIXED for R2 signaling.
In the configuration you will need to add the tables on the router that will route the callz to the other routers of your sites. Dependig whch number the PBX is sending the router will route the call. In the PBX side you need to implement ARS route lists and Discriminators rules (you need ARS licenses too)
Is not easy.... You need experts on Cisco voice and Alcatel.

So there is no way to do it with the Alcatel's built in functionality? I'm not sure which cards we already have, we may already have what you listed. I know we have 2 chasis at the main location and CPU's and Co-CPU's and both the cpu and co-cpu have WAN and LAN ports already. We are able to get the 4 digit dialing working across our data network over the lan connection. And we were able to establish a site to site tunnel between OXO's but we cant get the 4 digit to go across it. I cant help but thinking it's some configuration issue. Are there any white papers available on this stuff?

You have a configuration issue there. There are several factors to be taken into account:
-the kind of dialing plan used (I would recommend a closed one for all the sites)
-the bandwith you have and the compression protocol to be used g711 - no compression but 64kb/s required (84kb/s I think over VPN)
-the topology of your network
etc
You must realize that OXO isn't the best product for networked nodes (like OXE is) becouse it is not intended for that purpose. However you can establish a smll network but you have to carefully design it.
maybe the best way is to bring an expert on your project.
Good luck.

Making 9 sites work can be a real pain.
I am working on 7 sites with OXO's and we are using external VPN routers. First you have to make a numbering plan and IP adresses of all the sites. Please use IP trunking with the mode in ARS set to Hom and not Het. Program the ARS for the extensions to the right IP adres.
It can be done, but you need time and a lot of trial and error before it works..
Good luck!
