I have it running for some time now...
I was wondering why there were never questions here about this matter...
So you guys did not know yet...
Some guy in Switzerland made it working on R7.0. I installed R7.1 by his instructions. Maybe I can translate his instructions this afternoon.

Here are the translated instructions by A. Geinitz:

The installation of Alcatel OXE Release 7.x on VMware fails with this error:
/sbin/runinstall: line 11: 38 Segmentation fault install --ks=ramdisk

You have to execute this command to continue with the installation:

ifconfig eth0 down
ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:0c:29:d8:ff:d4
ifconfig eth0 up
/sbin/runinstall

After the installation the network interface is not working again. You have to change a batch file which is executed at startup.

edit the file(with vi): /etc/rc.d/init.d/network
and add this line
action "Setting hw-mac-address: " ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:0c:29:d8:ff:d4
as you can see here:

...and there is also an easy way to get the system running again after 30 days without reprogramming it... but that is another story.

Or you can modify the Mac Address directly on VMWare modifying this file:

For version 5:

[VMWareMachineName].vmx

Edit it and modify:

ethernet0.generatedAddress = "00:0c:29:6a:04:04"

to:

ethernet0.generatedAddress = "00:0c:29:d8:ff:d4"

For Version 4 modify the .cfg file and do the same.

Installation of R7.x 100% successful according to instructions from Ibuza.

I thought the failure might have been caused by some incompatibilities between VMware & the linux but that's hopefully not the case.

I have been looking for a solution like this for a long long time. So I was very pleased to see that there were a lot of persons that succesfully installed OXE on a virtual machine.

But I have tried to install both release 6.1.1, 7.0 and 7.1, but all FAILED!
After booting the virtual machine, the linux.ram is installed, but then there is an errormessage:

Warning: undi_close() failed 1.
[Linux-bzImage, setup=oxa00, size=0x9f1ec]
[Linux-initrd @ 0x7c07000, 0x3e789a bytes]

Does anyone has any suggestions?
I use VMware 5.5.1 build-19175

The second problem I have is with the ethernetaddress. I tried to change it in the vmx file like cavagnaro said, but after a reboot of the virtual machine the same old address is there again....

I doubt that that really solves the problem. The problem is that the network card has no MAC adress at all in release 6.2 and 7.x. Even if you configure something in VWware it still has 00:00:00:00:00 as a MAC.

You should stick with release 6.1.1 because it runs on VMware without changes. If you have release 6.1.1 running you can try the newer ones.

What are your settings at the PC Installer?
Is there any output on the serial port?

Ik have succesfully installed release 6.1.1.
After the warning I just waited for some time and the installing went on!!

First I will stickt to R6.1.1. If evrything works fine I will try R7.x again.
