SIP Trunk Codec

Post by lgarner »

Hello,
Just new to alcaltel, we have an OmniPCX Enterprise R9.1.
Setting up a sip trunk and everything seems to be ok except that I cannot seem to get PCMU enabled.
Below is a snippit from the top of a trace when we make a call from one of our IP Touch phones to a sip device that only supports PCMU. As you can see PCMA is there, I have set the ip compression set to G711 in the trunk and my understanding was that both PCMA and PCMU should be enabled, when set it back to 'default' I only see G723 and G729 in the list...

1300856627 -> ALGOS :
1300856627 -> PCMA
1300856627 -> G723
1300856627 -> G729
1300856627 -> 97

I receive a response back from the sip device as below, can anyone make some suggestions? Sip devices that are PCMA/G723/G729 work fine.

1300856627 -> RECEIVE MESSAGE FROM NETWORK (192.168.0.100:5060 [UDP])
----------------------utf8-----------------------
SIP/2.0 488 Suggested codecs were not acceptable

Cheers

worked it out, it seems that it is a system setting, System-Other System Param-System Parameters-Law A Law
can be either ulaw (PCMU) or alaw (PCMA)

Not exactly. In two words - this setting concerns TDM (ACT) equipment. For different MGs you can have different laws in one system.
Concerning SIP - PBX by default sends both PCMA and PCMU coding in INVITE from PABX if no compression should be used whatever law is set in a system.
Concerning your problem:
- Your SIP phone is declared as SIP device or SIP extension in mao
- Check your IP domains for IP Touch and SIP set.

Thanks, I have had a look IP domins for SIP and IP Touch are set "without compression". Trunk Group for Sip "Ip Compression Type" set to G711. I have setup 3 sip devices, one as a sip extension, one as a sip device, one as an external voicemail. When calling these from a IP Touch phone I see in the trace only PCMA in the INVITE. When I set the "Ip Compression Type" on the trunk group back to "Default" PCMA is also removed from the invite. The System cmpression trype is set to G723 and Multi Algorithms for Compression is enabled.

ALGOS :
PCMA
G723
G729
97

You're right - that's how it works now from 9.0 :( And it looks like you can't do anything except of using SIP sets supporting G,771 A-law.In Release 9.0 they introduced so-called "Multi Country Feature". :evil:
Before 9.0 PBX sent both PCMA and PCMU in INVITEs when calling SIP sets/gateways.
