IP camera having issues behind L2 switch connected with 7750

Post by Samuel_85 »

Hi mates,

I would like to submit a doubt I have using 802.1q for vlan trunking.
We are having an issue with this scenario

INTERNET ----- > ALU 7750 ------> L2 SWITCH ------> IP CAMERA

For some reason, when we connect the L2 switch using 802.1q for several VLANs against the 7750, the IP camera can not be accessed from Internet. I can ping the camera (is using a public IP), and actually I see it using I. Explorer, but it does not show the image or the admin interface it just hangs.

On the other hand, if I connect the camera directly to the ALU 7750, it works fine.

The L2 switch is a catalyst (switchport trunk allowed.....,etc.etc). I'm not an expert in 7750 so I do not know how it manage the 802.1q.

Could someone give me an advice for troubleshoot ?

I have already checked MTU parameters, speed, duplex, flowcontrol, etc.

Well some traffic is getting through (pings) and other traffic isn't. My first guess would be an MTU problem but you say you've checked that.

Check layer 1 upwards - look for errors on all the physical ports involved, including on the camera itself.

Ping at the max MTU with don't fragment set and compare the results with and without the switch.

If all else fails, configure a remote mirror session on the 7750 and use it to collect packet traces with and without the switch and compare the two to see what traffic is being dropped when you go to the admin interface on the camera. You can also do something similar with a local SPAN session on the L2 switch.
