Post by muga »

Hello,

we are searching for a compatibilty USB-Stick for the OS6850. We know the Alcatel Stick for 20€.
We also know that the USB-Stick must not be larger than 4GB. We tried 5 different but none works.

location is germany.

If you want to get technical, Alcatel indicates VFAT format, but I have used a usb off of the shelf and this works... but not consistent. KEEP IN MIND!!! Alcatel recommends this only be used when a true crash of your system has happened. The reason is because this procedure actually reformats the Flash while uploading the image files (code) and the Flash should not be reformatted often. Whereas the recommended procedure is to simply FTP the image files to the ‘working’ directory (NOT FLASH) and then ‘reload working no rollback-timeout’. Because it is possible to corrupt the flash using the USB procedure, Alcatel-Lucent does not recommend using the USB.

I tested Kingston DataTraveler 4GB. It worked.

I used various older sticks (Fat32) size 256MB-2GB (Give-aways) most of them (70%) worked.

I had some sticks that (from time to time) did crash the whole switch.
I do not share qwertys fears That formatting will kill the flash ( it will but not during normal use), I would believe appending single log-lines to swlog does more harm than a format every half year.

No need to do a disaster recovery everytime (that formats flash), but auto-copy does the same as downloading to working and rebooting.

Format as FAT32 and try different sticks. on the otherside a couple of Alcatel sticks for 20€ should not kill bankrupt you
