I was having this exact problem myself. I used this article in conjunction with a PDF I found on Alcatel's support site (8554_OS6250_flash_recoevry__uboot_based_file_transfer-1.pdf) and yes, they spelled recovery wrong on the PDF.

I encountered this problem after trying to administratively shut a port from the GUI interface of the switch. I realized after hitting OK, that the confirmation window said it was shutting down slot 1 (the entire switch).

What I did to fix it...

Booted to Miniboot and issued the sysNewfs "/flash" command and then reboot. I took a standard 1G flash drive and put the AoS image files onto it. The documentation was a little sketchy on the file structure it should be in and I kept getting this error:

[Miniboot]->Bulk Device mounted at 480 Mbps. With 1 Logical Units at node 2
USB Disaster Recovery Activated
sysUsbDisasterRecoveryTask: ERROR: /uflash/<target>/certified not found. Exiting.
Configure /uflash/<target>/certified and remount USB flash drive

After playing around with it a bit and using this document - download/file.php?id=1753 - I managed to land the correct directory structure and it properly started up a disaster recovery process.

.copying file /uflash/6450/certified/KFbase.img -> /flash/certified/KFbase.img
Copy OK: 15510736 bytes copied
copying file /uflash/6450/certified/KFdiag.img -> /flash/certified/KFdiag.img
Copy OK: 2325506 bytes copied
copying file /uflash/6450/certified/KFeni.img -> /flash/certified/KFeni.img
Copy OK: 5083931 bytes copied
copying file /uflash/6450/certified/KFos.img -> /flash/certified/KFos.img
Copy OK: 2511585 bytes copied
copying file /uflash/6450/certified/KFsecu.img -> /flash/certified/KFsecu.img
Copy OK: 597382 bytes copied
copying file /uflash/

I'm now able to load the normal CMM. After wiping the flash and restoring the system, the Stack Manager was restored to defaults and the switch came back on functioning normally. Hopefully my addition to the thread may save someone else a few hours of time if they do the same thing to their switch.

We saw the Crash.pmd file in Certified:[Kernel].

What is the way to extract the file (Crash.pmd) from Kernel?
Is the a doc link/PR link to this?

if you can boot the switch: use ftp to access flash, copy crash.pmd,

If ftp does not work you may use a compatible usb stick
"usb enable"
cd ..
copy crash.pmd /uflash

If you are running a current software (e.g. you were not hit by this "known /flash eating bug") i would open an sr

try it with an other PC - other serial adapter - other terminal program. Check RTS/CTS and Xon/Xoff there. With putty f.e. you can use the default serial settings.
Are you able to have access to other (working) Alcatel-switches?

stewartd007 wrote: 18 Oct 2012 10:20 I have experienced exactly the same issues on a 6450-P24 and a 6450-48. I managed to make one work again by carrying out a similar process to what wilfie113 did, although I had booted from USB to get files back onto the switch. The switch now appears to work but I have not been brave enough to put back on customer site yet in case it fails again. I have not attempted the same on my 2nd faulty switch yet as I was wanting Alcatel to identify the cause of the issue - hardware fault or software fault.

Alcatel have only asked me to send tech support logs and apparently do not know of this issue. Is there a range of Serial numbers affected by this fault? Are Alcatel offering replacement switches for ones experiencing the problems?

I currently have 8 x 6450 switches, the first 2 that I installed are the ones that failed. I currently have several other 6450 switches on customer sites - should I be worried about these too?

Will keep you posted of any progress!
Hi,
Could you kindly guide me, how to create and which files need to be on the USB?

within the folder \6450\certified\ you need all img-files.
Nothing else for this switch.
