It's the "should" in your last post that worries me. This customer is being very precious right now and my next move must be one that is 100% guarenteed!

When walking on thin ice knigh,t wouldn't be wise to replicate the issue on lab and test possible solutions?

I would just charge ahead and see if I got wet. Whats the worst that could happen? It fails like all other options.

I have one at my office, but in 9 out of 10 times I use VmWare on my laptop.
