One SIP extension for several phones

Post by pacob »

Hello.
We want substitute four analogic phones with Thomson SIP phones.
But actually they share the same analogic extension on OXE.
Can several Thomson phones share one SIP account?.
We want to avoid creating more extensiones (more numbers, more licenses, etc.).
Is this possible?. Has no sense?.
Thanks in advance.

As far as I know this isn't possible.
Each Thomson set should have its own number.
Of course you can use a huntgroupnumber to make sure all users are still reachable under the same number, but you cannot save on licenses using sip.....

Hi, have not tried this but have you set the phones up with the same extn number and see if forking works?
may be the answer you are looking for.

I've been testing this: set up two phones with the same extension.
It works!. I can answer calls with phone1 or phone2.
And more: while I'm talking with phone1, I can make a call with phone2 (?).
But I can't get transfer call working between them. And I need this feature.
Regards.

It seems as though forking is good. Is it possible to add a second number to the Thompson phone? Don't know the specs of the phones you use.
On some sip devices you can assign 2 or more registrations. In that case each phone could have it's own number as well as a common one.
You say you are replacing 4 existing phones on the same analogue port so they would already have the issue of not being able to transfer to the other phones. It makes sense that you can't transfer or call yourself I think.
Maybe what you want is multiline feature so why not provide 4 4018 or 4008 phones?

The idea is saving costs in two ways:
1. Avoying Alcatel phones, more expensives. Another important issue: I could use Thomson ST2022 with Asterisk, etc.
2. Avoying more licenses. That's because I don't want to add a second number but share the same. If I did this I'd consume one license (well, two really: client and server).
We're talking abount hundred of extensions.
Actually, 4 analog phones share the same extension because all of them are "wired" in the same board position. They don't transfer call to each other: one pick up the phone an the other hangs.
By the way, I've been testing one Thomson and SJPhone (same extension). I can make the following call from SJPhone to Thomson: "sip:147.84.7.64".
But still can't transfer calls between them.
May be it's impossible: can't transfer call to myself (as you say).
Regards.
