Has anyone been able to get any of the Unix versions <R5.1 to work on VMware. I know its pretty old but i dont have spare cpu to do a couple of renumbers on? Also it would be a lot less painful that having to do it on a cpu3-2 (hopefully)

The Linux Releases have been designed to run on a normal Computer (Appliance Server / Blade Server). That is why they run on VMware. The Releases with Chorus OS have been designed to run on the Alcatel CPUs. Do not waste your time trying to make them run on VMware. I think that would be hopeless unless your are a very talented hacker capable of reverse engeneering.

how can we see Chorus OS HDD ? i forgot my root password on Chorus OS and i take in to my external HDD Box and plug in to my Linux op system . normally i can see all linux relase and i can get back up files but I can not connect to Chorus Files system like this. i want to edit /etc/passwd files but how can i reach it and open it ?

guys: the ChorusOS is a x86 like system.
You could _easily_ run it on any x86-emulator, but you have to setup a ne2000 network card or use a com/rs232 virtual link.
It's quite easy, since ChorusOS it self has become open source (by Sun).

So only thing that i don't have is a working oxe with chorus aka Ux image made from hdd cpu3-2

I am inclined to agree with krzysioD. If I am not mistaken, the CPU3 was based on an INTEL 386 processor, this specific CPU was the first x86 to support the 32 bit bus. For whatever that little bit of knowledge is worth.

I am no expert on this VMware stuff &, since joining this forum, I have read a few bits that you guys have posted and I am struggling to find the benefit of running this VMware emulation. Now and then a little idea comes in to my head where I think "I wish I could see that right now without connecting to a running real system". But those occassions don't seem to occur too often so for now, I will abstain

Well, one thing that vmware is lacking is a 'ne2000' isa-clone.
This is no problem when you have lived with open source some time, since the Bochs emulator (http://bochs.sourceforge.net/) is quite a good piece of software.

There is even a howto back from 2003 how to run a bochs-based chorus (now its called C5 by Sun, or jaluna in open source world).

What has been done:

setup a PXE-floppy (to support BOOTP, not only dhcp as for vmware server bios does, download from: http://rom-o-matic.net/). Floppy image will be named pcnet32.zdsk (Etherboot ver 5.4.3)

Then, boot

Problem: I ran out of memmory around 602 KB (etherboot+bios could consume some 38KB).

Solution for that is diffrent emulator than vmware, diffrent 2nd stage loader or simply plug old hdd with chorus into PC...
It should work.

The easiest way to do this is (and be careful!)
Ftp as the other OXE user (passwd = ****) then re-name the .profile to OLD.profile, so that when you login the 4400 does not shut down. Then login as that other user, run passwd root and away you go.

Cavagnaro: Hi, me again, we have decided to remove the info about the another PBX user as may be dangerous. sorry. I edited the "other OXE user"

Be careful tho - if you dont remove/rename the halt .profile the system will shut down when you login!!

Cavagnaro: Sorry to delete the halt account password, but as it's open we don't want to give easy access to eyes looking around. As said many times, no passwords are allowed to be posted, you may use PM for such info.

maybe someone has TC from BPWS (or does know the number) that extractlly describes step-by-step procedure of loading chorus?
