mcast issue

Post by jlee003 »

First post here:

I have noticed that if i have 2 mcast souces for the same group in a layer 2 domain, i get a lot of errors at the reciever, if the reciever is also in the same l2 domain. This is actually giving me quite a head ache as i have primary and redundant streams that are in the same subnet terminated at 2 seprate 7750sr's. I know redundancy works fine. running vrrp or not i can pull from one source, then the other all day. Because of the l2 source issue however, i am unable to span the vpls together to allow for load balancing and the full benefit of the round robin ssm joins. I am using igmp snooping on each sap.

thanks for any input

So i have found that the span is ok utilizing a spoke-sdp if you do not turn on igmp snooping and mrouter. You could also build a mcast filter to apply to ur sdp to accomplish this as well. In my testing on this, the sdp allowed for the query to reach both sources. the rpf check actually built the tree out the correct interface since only one sdp in each vpls was an mrouter port. Just thought i would share.
