Alcatel Unleashed

Hi Ive just joined this site which seems very informative . Ive been a PABX Engineer for 25 years now(NEC FUJITSU Ericsson NEC Nortel BT Dealers and some Avaya ATT Siemens and ) and have just pulled out a old 4400
which I think was installed on 2001 mainly . Since I get to keep It I want to play around with it. I know where all the ports are but I want to play around with it so would any of you Alcatel Gurus be able to advise me on what S/w I need . From what I can make out there is PM5 , telnet and possibly 4760i can anyone point me in the right direction.

Telnet is one choice if you know the IP or can sniff for it, also serial connection (RS232) is another option if you have all well plugged...
Get the OXE documentation from the main site and dig on it.
PM5 is for OXO, a sister version of OXE/A4400 but with another OS and less capabilities.

Do i need certain software for rs232 or do i just use hyperterminal ? as I am looking at at the manual I see like most big systems it has a gui progam which is omnivista 4760 and is also programmed by commands? I must say how ever the hardware looks quite solid looking at it closely. I have startied to appreciate it more.

hey cavagnaro thanx for help I have sys set up and all but when I hyperterm the sys it keeps telling me invalid password.
Have tried mtcl and various others eg i keep gettng reply invalid username/password

Any Ideas ?

search on the forum for recover root password, there is a linux procedure
