9 Series handset power supply

Hi All

doing an install and have been caught with some older 2 wire cabling between two frames and do not have enough capacity to carry additional pairs for 4 wire handsets. Has anyone heard of an alternative method for getting power to a 9 series handset other than from the OXO ?

I have spare pairs in the building where the handsets are, but no capacity from that building back to where the OXO is, so if I can get power to the frame in the building, I can get it to the handsets.

I thought of an AC plug pack of the appropriate voltage and amperage modified to split out to the appropriate pins on each extension ...

I have an electrician who can do the appropriate mods and ensure correct voltage and current etc, but just wondering if it is possible.

Anyone struck this problem before ?

Hi Roly,

I do not get your problem.
First the 9 series are 2 wire phones.
Second the phones are phanton powered.

Why do you think the phones use 4 wires?
Its digital 2wire with remote feeding.
So 2 wires on every phone should do the job or am i missing your point?

Please explain..

Thanks for your reply Henk1964

these are 4019 & 4029 handsets comming off a UA16-1 card. According to the install manual, the ports on the UA16-1 use pins 4&5 for signal and 7&8 to carry voltage. With the two wire only connection, the OmniPCX Office detects the phone, but the screen on the phone does not light up and it cannot make or recieive a call.

We think we might be able to get around the problem by combining two of the pairs in the trunk to make one line, then using 4099 Multi UA hub to split that out into 3 extensions, but I would still be interested to know if anyone has any other solutions for my future reference.

Thanks

pins 7 and 8 only carry power on the first port for an external power supply or base stations.

the 9 series handsets are all 2 wire. and will work on pins 4 and 5.
