XFP-10G-SR and OM4 Fiber

Hi,

According to the OmniSwitch Tranceiver Guide, the XFP-10G-SR has a transmission distance of 300m on OM3 fiber.

Will I be realizing any distance gains if I use OM4 fiber instead? More importanly, what's the official word on support?

Nothing's been bought, I'm just in the planning stages.

Regards,

John

Hi John,

This is more a matter of the standard and what is "allowed" by it.

You can do 10G-SR with 550 meters on OM4. Please keep in mind that this requires the full-link (including patch-cables/jumpers) to be OM4 grade.

John,

As you posted this in OS6850E - please keep in mind that OS6850E uses SFP+ while OS6850 uses XFP.
You can't run XFP in OS6850E, only in OS6850.
