Alcatel Lucent 7705 SAR-F displays nothing via Console

Hello All,

I am new to this forum and joined to develop my Alcatel skills.

I recently bought an Alcatel Lucent 7705 SAR-F but can't to figure out what is wrong. Though the device seems to boot fine and stays constantly on, a few indicators alarms stay on i.e. Crit (Critical ) alarm stays RED, Stat (Status) alarm blinks GREEN and AMBER and the Pwr (Power) alarm stays BLUE.

In a bid to carry out further investigations on my own and given its a new device and not yet configured with a management IP address, I attempted to console into the device but couldn't see anything CLI prompt displayed via my console application interface. I then connected the Alcatel device to a Cisco 3750 switch & Laptop which brought up the Ethernet port on both occasions, but with the Min (Minor) alarm indicator staying AMBER.

I am really confused now and don't know what to do. I won't want to ring the seller and then discover its a minor issue, hence why I am asking for advise from you Alcatel expert in this forum to help me get things up and running.

Any response will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your contributions in advance.

Kind Regards,

Freggy

So a couple answers, not sure if you need them since this post is older.

The Critical alarm LED stays lit due to you most likely not having a Management IP address set up. The status LED is for the mgmt port connection. The blue LED is for power, so as long as the unit has power then that light will be on.

You didn't see anything on your console CLI session due to either being setup incorrectly as DTE/DCE or because your unit was using default settings for the console port. Which means the baud rate was not 9600 like most of us are used to, but defaults to 115200 and 8N1. Try those settings and play with DCE/DTE and you should get a prompt.

You would need the default login info, which is username admin and password admin.
