Replacing ipTouch 4068 device with a 'softphone'

Post by SteveSmith »

Hello all,

I've been charged with the enviable task of replacing the ipTouch 4068 devices that our client currently uses with a softphone under development here.

I'm new to the forum and am having a little problem fully undertsanding where I'd find the documentation for the interface (SIP/RTP I'm guessing) for this device.

I've been searching and reading (trying to be well behaved :D ) but not making too much headway to date.

Can any kind soul point me in a concise direction or detail what I need to search for in 'Alcatelese'.

Best regards
Steve

softphone under development???

I'm guessing this is a non-alcatel softphone?

In which case you need to specify which protocol it will use/require. You mentioned SIP and as you have 4068 phone, you must already have INTIP hardware in your system. However, if you are going to introduce SIP, you will most likely need the relevant SIP licenses in your Alcatel system because the licenses you currently have will probably be for IP clients and not IP Gateway or SIP trunks/clients etc.

There is some SIP documentation in the 'Home made docs' forum.

You cannot replace 4068 proprietary phone with softphone using SIP from one good reason: 4068 uses H.323 protocol with proprietary UA (Universal Alcatel) embedded on it, so it does not support SIP (yet).
You can test your SIP phone creating (if you have licence for that) an external station for that purpose and setting up some SIP parameters described in the System Documentation which is by the way available for download on this site. there you may find all you need for successfully creating an Alcatel SIP user.

 What? 4068 IPTouch is a UA Propetary protocol that is based on H323, not on SIP.

I agree with Cav. It is suppose that Alcatel will embedded UA inside SIP in the future.
