DTMF Digits reception problem in Automated attendant.

Hi ,
I have a site with OXE , crystal hardware, R 10.
the problem there i am experiencing is that the DTMF digits dialled by an external caller are not being recognized by the PABX randomly... this is creating a big problem on the customer site.
It is a multi-level AA ,, so when the user has only to dial 1 digit to reach the following menu,, it is OK ,, because if the digit is not recognised by the PABX, the Voice guide , keeps on playing,, so the caller can press it second time..., third ........
but the main issue arises when the caller reaches the leaf to dial an extension number... as soon as the first digit is recieved by the PABX, the VG stops playing and the system waits for the rest of the digits,,, now if any one of the digits is missed by PABX of the 4 digit extn numbr,, the system keeps on waiting for it... which results in the angriness of the customer saying that AA is not working...
Since , it is random,,, it is a chaotic situation... because sometimes it dials successfully and sometimes not...
This is a serious issue at the site, please come up with any suggestions you people have that i cna try and resolve this issue...
