From 11.0R2, if you are doing a standard software upgrade rather than ISSU, any boot ROM and/or firmware upgrade needed is normally performed automatically on boot by the new boot.ldr that you have installed. Any new card you install also has its firmware automatically upgraded.

If you're doing an In-Service Software Upgrade (ISSU), you need to hard reset the card with the clear command for the firmware to get upgraded.

"show card detail" will tell you if the current firmware is acceptable.

The section "Software Upgrade Procedures" in the Release Notes would probably be of help to you.

once you've changed your BOF to point to the new TiMOS version and have sync'd the boot-env between CPMs, issuing the command "admin reboot upgrade" will force a firmware upgrade.
