4980 without OTS?

Hi guys,
I have an internal discussion with another engineer who tells me that 4980 exists by default on OXE and has no need of OTUC, if I understand him on one way, yes you can create a PCMM2 extension without OTUC (or any OTS) but it will not work... or I can understand that somehow he made it work without any OTS?
Maybe i'm too new with OXE and missing some old feature?
Any input will be appreciated
Thanks
ps: The main problem is that I can't make work a PCMM2 because according to docs I need a INTIPA or a GD board, none of them exists on customer, only the virtual one. So I asked him which card took control of resources and he answered me that without a concrete answer...

I think he is talking about the IP desktop softphone. That does not need OTUC. but still will need GD/GA/INTIP
But on OXE you must have real compressors to convert the voice from T2 or UA or any non ip device so that call can be made to IP (phone) clients. So GD or GA or INTIP-physical must exist. Otherwise - OTUC is the way!

Yeah maybe. But I always mentioned the PCMM2 so I don't think he made such mistake...?
If I don't have GD/or INTIPA can a INTIPB handle that interaction?

I mean - it is the management that defines its role. Also switch bank n B side determines Crystal id.

Ok, so if customer has already IP Phones working those compressors will be the responsibles also for make work the PCMM2 right?

physical IP phones have their own compressors. If 1 IP set calls another IP set, then no system compressor is used.
If one ip set calls a analog or UA digital set, then 1 system compressor is required.
What exactly is the hardware in your customer system Cav?

IP desktop doesnt need otuc but it is licensed - when i was playing around with it it a few years ago you configured it as a 4037 although that might have changed now they are EOL. It was prety buggy too

well zanex, now it is ok, still configured as 4037.
However I know what it is and how it works. My question was specifically about PCMM2, I'm now more sure of what I'm asking.
Thank guys

There is an old 4980 server. You don't need anything else as I recall. PM me if you want the kit. It was removed from ABPS (just a link is there for OTUC My Phone ---> it's replacement)
Regards.
