Hello,

Does anyone knows what is the connection (cable) between an Appliance Server and the SyA or SyB on an RMA board? We have tried using the console cable supplied by Alcatel that is used to connect to the CONFIG port of either CS or GD board but the Appliance Server keeps on resetting once we connect it. Need your assistance on this. Thanks.

Same as a normal CS I would think. If I remember right this is a rolled cable.

This is "normal" RS232c cable, like console one, just from appliance box like x306 it has a "normal" DB9 and from RMA it's a RJ45.
IIRC: this has "ground" on pins (RJ45) 4 & 5 (just like OXE console cable) and 3 & 6 PINs are RXD/TXD, in DB9 you have pin 5 for ground, pin 2 for RXD, pin 3 for TXD. You need to make cross-over (simple null modem with only 3 wires) so, txd/rxd go cross, and ground is ground.
Fastest way to do it: take patchcord, (or straight, 8 wire cable, like for console) cut the RJ45, make it "the other way around" ie, put pin 1st to pin 8th position (and so on, note: you only need the 3,4,5 & 6th pin) , and use a RJ45<>DB9 adaptor.
The RMA suggest that you have redundancy, so you need two of this cables.

The very simple trick for NOT buing RMA+MODM boards in common hardware small rack is like this:
have two modems (multitech or microcom), connect one modem to one appliance box.
Every modem gets one SLI/Z line access (so two diffrent extensions) and you have a 1000 Euro "in plus" and possiblity to dial in to both of Appliance servers...

I have already used roll over cable and RJ45-DB9 adaptor for the Appliance Server but I still could not connect. Is there any configuration needed to be done on the Appliance Server?

I think that you use diffrent pinout.
Use DB9 do CS adapter (it's like DB9 with RJ45 slot) and use straight cable.
It works for me.
Maybe your RMA needs to be configured?

I've already tried using straight cable but still would not work. I thought RMA SyA to serial port of Appliance Server should be rollover cable? Isn't it?

If i see it correctly, as documentation says:

SYA/SYB: (pins in RJ45)

3 RXD
4 GND
6 TXD

And it says you should use the 3EU28000AA for CS in common hardware.
The 3EU28000AA is USOS cross-over RJ45 to RJ45.

You need to put RXD from SYA to TXD to RS232c port labeld "com1" on back of appliance
You need to put TXD from SYA to RXD to RS232c port labeld "com1" on back of appliance
You need to put GND from SYA to GND to RS232c port labeld "com1" on back of appliance

RS232c in DB9 on back of the app server is:
2 RXD
3 TXD
5 GND

I've used straight patchcords and DB9 "adapters" like this:


If you have a cable to connect from CS Common Hardware (RJ45) to your laptop (DB9) it should work.
