Moving Voicemail to appliance server

Hi all ,

i am moving a voicemail that currently resides on the CPU CS to a new appliance server, First off if any knows of a tech doc on this please let me know had a look on the kbase but nothing obvious. Essentially what I want to know is can a backup of the current vmail be used to restore prompts etc to the new server? second the system uses an IAA and I am presuming that the voice guides used on this will be unaffected is this a safe assumption?

Thanks

B

Any guidance or advice appreciated

Hi

first of all, the 4645 is a software solution. the only different from cpu cs to
appliance are the voice channels 8 on cpu cs(witch OXE) and 16 on AS.

The backup is compatible to both servers.

The installation for 4645 is the same on RS and AS

RS= Rack Server? :) strange term.
16 is maximum for both, AS runnig as CPU and AS running ONLY the 4645 VM (i think that dedicated AS could handle much, much more but, huh...)
Setup is the same, voice guides are the same, but i would check if pretty new AS has VG in your languages for VM, once i was moving VM from Common Hardware CPU to AS, and AS had no VG for VM (it was ordered as VM), so, i've downloaded VGs and it was working very much the same as in Common Hardware CPU.

Should be no problem - just save it using swinst.
But the guides in /usr7/vgeva/evavg.xxx (except .GEA) should be saved (your language)
I think the files are not installed by default (except .GEA files)
Is the IP of the new VM the same? If not, it's a bit more complicated...

Mmmh. Good luck. I had some weeks ago problems to change the IP in mgr.
Just try it

The other thing that confuses me is that the AS is supplied pre built as a CS, but I already have a CS, do I need to set it up as voicemail only? do I need to apply licenses in other words is there any management I need to perform before using this should telephony be running? I know thes seem like dumb questions but I have only ever used 4645 when built into CS

no licenses to install. Just configure the name and IP address, make sure both host files are set with the other cpu's information.

When you specify the name of the voicemail in mgr, it will use the host file to connect to this CPU, it will create the voicemail paritition and bring the 4645 into service. you can then restore your backup.

Then once in service, make sure your autostart is set otherwise 4645 will never start. Once running the cpu role will be 4645 running.

I have never changed IP's (move 4645 from one cpu to another), so Elliot would know more about problems in that regard.

You may have to delete and start fresh, I just don't know...

You might try in a lab first.
